Office Carry?

Another vote for the small Blind Horse Tiger Knapp. A couple of wraps and you have exactly what you described. But considering you already have the Bark River, get a pocket sheath and it totally disappears. That's the way I carry both of these.

I also already own the CRKT "Sting", although I use it primarily as a small thrower. I really like that sheath you posted Phil. That is the $32 "Multi Carry"? As someone else posted it is illegal to carry here in Texas do to the double edge. :-/

Are there different sheath's for the Mikro-Canadian? Something that holds the knife more securely than the provided one? I've had it fall out on my with the provided sheath, it's not very tight.

Supposedly a nice knife for 20 dollars.

It looks smaller than my CS Brave Heart, that might work. I guess I'd have to see the sheath/case it comes with and how thick the handle is. If it slips away in a pocket I'd be happy.

you work in. But, were I your boss, I would wonder about the business need for a fixed blade while on the clock. If you've got an appropriate folder, reconsider.

That is one problem I am considering. I'll be working with a lot of boxes and packaging so I really think some kind of knife is going to be handy. Most of my folders will do the job, but I also like to carry a "bigger" blade for peace of mind. This is why when I was a mechanic I'd pocket carry a folder, and conceal a larger fixed blade. My thinking is to compromise with a small fixed blade, so I get the knife I prefer at a size that isn't "scary". I guess time will tell, and if I only spend $30-40 on it I won't be heart broken if I'm told it can't stay with me at the office.

Sorry if I missed anyone, that's a lot of posts since last night. Given all the recommendations for a few knives I already own I may look into just getting better sheath's for them as well. This is turning into a laundry list of what I can buy next and how I can improve what I already own haha! My first paycheck will be missing a nice chunk.

Koyote here on the forums makes a small psk/necker scandi grind for a little more than 40 bucks too, as long as you dont mind a cord wrapped handle.

that is a double edged knife with both edges sharpened, so it is considered a dagger/dirk and therefore a dangerous weapon which will get you a misdemeanor in most states. in fact i think all states.

If this was truly the case do you think CRKT would sell the knife?

You're an expert on knife law across all fifty states?

nope but just about everyone who likes knives knows general knife law if they care about not getting a misdemeanor. if your state law prohibits daggers or dirks then that knife is considered a dangerous weapon.

Do you honestly believe you are telling anyone reading this thread anything they do not know?

Before you making sweeping statements about knife laws, I would recommend either considering your words more carefully or actually taking the time to learn the specifics of the laws you're discussing.

A quick perusal of Iowa knife law (your own state) here http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/ia.txt has led me to the conclusion it would be legal in Iowa to carry this knife provided it was not concealed or carried with unlawful intent.

It is good to have an intimate knowledge of one's state law and to comply with it. But there is so much variance among the states that one would have difficulty making sweeping generalizations about what is legal and what is not.

Phil's pic, for example, would constitute open carry in my state (IMO), where there are no restrictions on blade design or size. There are also no concealed blade restrictions in my state for persons possessing a concealed deadly weapons license.

My point being that Mr. 4W4K3 would need to determine what is or is not legal in his jurisdiction, rather than relying on a broad claim of illegality based another state's law.

the maker of this topic doesnt seem to be a cop, so im concerned with the maker of the topic meeting a cop on his way home at a local convenience store and getting a fine and maybe get his sting confiscated. maybe hell even imitate the way you carry your sting and get charged for concealed carrying a fixed bladed knife as my friend did recently. it was just a little hunting knife and he got fined. but you are correct powernoodle.

my choice would be the boker edit

I'm limited to 4" blades, no automatics, no double edged blades, and the matter of open/conceal carry is "iffy". Having a small folder in your pocket is technically concealed carry, but I've been carrying pocket knives this way and IWB for years and never had any problems.

It really stinks that my local knife shop closed in 2008. Now I have to drive at least 20 minutes away to go to a big mega-store and sift through their selection. Their prices online are about $10 higher per knife (compared to other sites). On a $20-30 knife that's quite a markup.

The CRKT Side Hawg looks doable. On a key chain and without the grip material it looks pretty innocent.

Given the availability of all these knives I want to look at, I my just end up buying online after all. I dread driving all that way and being disappointed in selection, they could be out of stock, etc. Their site doesn't give store inventory, but you can order "site to store" if you pay their online prices. How frustrating.

I agree with the votes for the Izula, it looks like a heck of a knife. I only have the RC3 for right now, so I can't give any first hand experience.

I don't know if you can still find them, since I haven't seen one for a while, but I have a Mini Pitbull by Timberline, and it's a very nice knife. Pretty cheap if I recall correctly (think it was around $30) and it's a heck of a knife. It's within your price range, has a great handle, sharp blade, and a sheath that works well for concealed carry (for me that's IWB usually). Plus, it will ride in your pocket pretty much like a regular folder, since the handle is small it won't grab people's attention that much.

There is also someone on here that makes a very nice little neck knife. He makes them from old files, so the blades are extremely tough, and they come very sharp. It's a little out of your price range at $55, but it's worth every penny IMO. I can't remember the maker, but if you search for "Snapless Torpedo's" you should find them, that was the title of his last posting. It took him about two days to complete mine once I ordered, so there isn't a long wait for the knife.

EDIT:Here is a link to the Mini Pitbull. That model has a black coating, but mine came without that, so you do have an option there if you don't like the black.

The Boker Plus fixed blade variant of the popular and compact Subcom should meet your needs (well, except for looking like a letteropener).

I just checked on ebay and there it can be bought within your budget.

But I also do think that something like the classic and useful alox SAK soldier folder will stir up far less antagonism in an office environment...

Have you ever worked in an office, Sharp Phil?

I think he was referring to size, and that it would be useful for letter opening, not that it actually resembled a letter opener. And my boss has a mini Excalibur sword as his letter opener, so the sting would be tame in comparison. :D

I also forgot to mention the newest knife from Chad Los Banos in my previous post. It's basically a larger version of the Subcom that was posted. Can't remember the model name, but if you look on Boker's website I'm sure it's easy to find.
