Office EDC Items

My career took me to SoCal from 1988 through 2022. Southern California was extremely good to me and my family, so [HEADS UP!] I don't take criticisms of it very kindly. (I am particularly unreceptive when the criticizer has never spent more than a few days or weeks in the state. And if he/she has never been there....!)

Now, with that said, I EDC'ed an edged implement for nearly that entire time. I made sure that it wasn't obvious and, when it was, that it wasn't "threatening." Like many of you I was "the one" folks came to when they needed something cut, or opened, or...

In my decidedly personal opinion, the entire edged-implement thingy depends ENTIRELY on two things: [1] the appearance, mannerisms and "threat profile" of the carrying person, and [2] the appearance of the edged implement.

Just my two-hundredths of a dollar. As always, your opinion may vary.

Define office. This was mine. Also Southern California but probably a different set of rules.

Lets see a guy always needs a good bridle bit or two:

Unlike many office jobs we have to bring our own chairs:

And always be properly attired:

Cutting things is part of the job. Not envelopes so much.

Our son has done well for himself. Worked his way up to a corner office with a view:

My office is mobile (I am the desk) therefore I carry mostly in my backpack, my current ball and chain doesn't see too much knife use, (full time driver).
i Picked up a 2 cryo(s), 2 christy knives, 2 opinels and two spyderco Resilience(s)
They are all stored in my backpack

I carry the following always:
Prometheus Alpha Pen (copper)
Clairefontabe 3.5” x 5.5” notebook in leather binder.

If I’m not flying, I add:
CRK Mnandi
Lilliput ballpoint pen (copper)
Leatherman wave in my laptop bag
Promethius Beta in my laptop bag

Office "EDC"?

I carry a Filofax Personal Classic Croc personal organizer. Inside it is a 6" General stainless steel ruler, an Executive Pocket Chum (calipers), and a TWSBI ECO-T fountain pen with an EF nib filled with waterproof blue ink. I carry a Filofax Bromley 2-pen case with a TWSBI ECO-T with an M nib filled with red ink, and a TWSBI ECO with the same waterproof blue ink and a 1.1 mm stub italic nib that is my signature pen.

And in my handbag is my EDC survival pouch, which has my Victorinox Rambler, a Fisher Bullet Space Pen, a mini Bic lighter, a NiteCore EC11 flashlight, a pair of Tweezerman Slant tweezers, some coins and bills, and a USB flash drive.

I also carry an Apple iPhone SE2 and 9th gen iPad, with Anker charger, powerbank, and cables, and sometimes a Brydge iPad keyboard and Logitech M720 mouse, plus a wired headset. I also carry a spare pair of reading glasses in my handbag, and a little square of non-slip drawer liner so my iPhone does slide around on a table, if I'm playing a game while taking a break.

My EDC handbag is a Tenba DNA 10 camera bag that has a padded iPad slot, with the padded camera insert removed.

That's really all I need to create a portable office.

That sounds more like EDC Office rather than Office EDC. :D

It just came back screaming into my head, so I thought I'd share...

Last place I worked was in an office environment.
They had a "no weapons" policy; no surprise there.
However, we also could not have a phone, paper, pencil or pen!
Didn't want us stealing the valuable customer info.

I don't know, how about hiring people you think you can trust?
That might work...🤔

Yup. Tehachapi is one hour, and an entire world, away from the Greater LA Metroplex. SWMBO and I strongly considered retiring there, but could not get away from the property taxes.

I have been fortunate over the past two years to work from home. Home carry rules totally different than plant rules. I carry what I want and also have whatever I want on the desk. At the plant it was different. Definitely no firearms allowed except the security staff. Knives were subjective in your cube but when trying to go into the plant, these were best left at your desk unless SAK size. With that said, just about all the security staff had pocket clip folders.

I enjoy working a blue collar trade job. I daily carry a delica 4, leatherman surge, twsbi eco, notepad, phone, watch, fenix ld30. Nothing different when I go into my office. As long as I don't have a gun or machete no one would think twice. Could easily carry a military 2 or police 4 in my office. When I worked in my office for a bit I did carry a benchmade grizzly creek everyday. Now back in the field, I carry the delica though because 2 of the states I work in I take care of a few school systems. I can carry the delica with less than 3" blade in those schools. I have a dragonfly to carry into government jobs requiring less than 2.5" blades.
