Office EDC?

When I wear slacks I carry any of my normal folders and don't worry about it.

My Benchmade 890 has a deep carry clip and is a fairly elegant design too. As for the 710, if you don't want to wear it with the clip then you could just drop it in your pocket. It's fairly lightweight. You could do the same with a Para2.

If you are wearing dark slacks then you could carry a knife with dark scales and dark clip and it wouldn't matter if it was deep carry or not, but with khaki dockers it would be more difficult to hide the clip.

I don't know what your definition of bulletproof might entail but what about an Opinel? No clip, inexpensive but well made, not offensive to people who think knives are always weapons but has a look that isn't traditional in the way a Case looks. You could even mod a smaller one like a #2 or #3 to be a keyring knife.

I work at office as Software Engineer / PM with "upper managements" as well. My choice of WDC (work Day carry) is Benchmade 940 with deep carry clip(from 810).

It is narrow profile compare to most of Spyderco or ZT series. Don't get me wrong, those are nice, but it has impression to non knife carrying folks as more intimidating than 940.

Thanks for so many replies, you guys are great! I am really liking the lionsteel knives. I've owned almost everything from Al Mar to ZT so I love finding a new brand to experience. I think I'm might order a lionsteel g10 opera. Does anyone have a size comparison pic with something common like a Delica or Mini Grip?

The only thing I'd caution you on is that pulling out a non-traditional knife may cause "issues" if folks aren't expecting it. Very few people will get nervous if you are wearing slacks and grab a SAK, Case, or something like a Mcusta or Al Mar from your pocket to open your lunch. However, a tactical folder may elicit "Cool" from some folks, and "Crap, someone call security!" from others. I'd love to carry some of my knives to work, but it doesn't fit with my environment. And there's very little I'd need to do in a day that I couldn't do with a SAK or Case folder.

I doubt I'm the only one to carry 2 knives, but when I was in the office, I carried a sage due to the wire clip and classy look, but my go to knife if people were around and most used was the spyderco ladybug. Very small and toy like but slays envelopes and packaging tape like no other. A traditional slip joint would suffice as well. Good luck and congrats.

I'm an executive and wear a suit everyday. I've adopted carrying a Spyderco Delica 4 on my waste so the clip is under my belt. I don't feel it, it is hidden under my suit jacket, when my jacket is off the clip is mostly concealed by my belt, and it is easy to access/deploy. I adopted this carry method due to people being concerned seeing a clip in my pocket and having the clip wear out my suit pockets.

I think that hawk has a good idea...clipping the Delica on his waist. I have carried small revolvers with Barami Hip-Grips in this fashion for 30 yrs.

Or better yet perhaps, a pocket multi-tool which probably wouldn't draw any attention at all. And even if it did, there's little likelihood anyone would interpret it as a "weapon".

Discretion is the better part of valor! There's no knife on the planet worth risking your job over. Regardless of how good you think your arguments are . . . no matter how much you feel the urge to stand up for your rights . . . you NEVER want to have to explain your actions to HR.

Nice recommendations and pics here, guys. I have three Caly 3's in ZDP for my office-nephews...I carried one for yrs in office-environment, around lots of women and sheeple without incident. I have gifted knives like Gayle Bradley Air, A.G. Russell Acies II, Wm Henry, several Spyderco LadyBugs with Photon light on ring. Also Spyderco Michael Walker liner-lock (was hard to find), just mailed a package of forty-one small SAKs to front-line troops in the 'Stan and gifted two others to deployed sons of good friends. Also would reco much less expensive/smaller Ontario Rat 2 folders and Zancudo, along with Utilitac II that seem perfectly fitted for younger folks or discreet carry.
And, as has been mentioned, a nice slippie pocket-knife that reminds folks of the "old days."

I agree with checking out lionsteel also.

I have a g10 opera and I took the clip off, it is a very sturdy knife, D2 blade, with lockback. It's very comfortable in the pocket clipless; it doesnt poke or anything. I wear mostly jeans so I'm not sure about how it feels in slacks.

Not too tactical, but very practical.

Idk why, but I use mine for food prep all the time. The blade shape is like a folding paring knife.

It looks great on a cheese plate also :D

Wow, thanks very much for sharing this picture.

This is next on my "to buy" list.

Good topic and recommendations. I too am an executive and have a knife with me everyday. I honestly don't use pocketclips, but carry in my front pocket or in my jacket pocket when wearing one. My choices go between a Strider PT CC, small CRK Senenza 21 with CF, or a 3" non-flipper Hinderer.

I would remove the clip from your knife and keep size at the Chaparral or smaller. The knife should stay in your pocket and out of sight. Interesting alternatives include some of the Mcusta knives. The Take is nice, but I don't recommend the Nami, unless you don't mind a two hand opener pretending to be a one handed frame lock.
Another knife that would work for the office is the Fallkniven Black Hawk. It is small, and sturdy, but a two handed opener.
I recommend the Chaparral.

Another vote for the Spyderco Caly. I prefer the 3.5, as you get more blade with the same amount of exposure out of the pocket as the Caly 3. That's what I carry in the office much of the time. The Spyderco Sage 1 (a perennial favorite) also works.

The Benchmade 705 and 707 is my favorite office carry, especially the limited editions. The M390 707 gets special attention.

You could try to sensitize the office by first carrying a small SAK or traditional folder. Let them purge the questions like, "why do you need a knife?" while they watch you cut a bagel. Then when people are used to it, you could carry something like the BM 707 in WB or deep pocket. I always carried a 3" edc that way as well as the SAK.

Just wear your 710 on your hip... Aint' Nobody got to know.
I just got promoted to management and now I have to wear slacks to work. This means that I am going to have to leave My Benchmade 710 and Emerson A100 at home. :grumpy: I am looking for a small locking knife that I can deep carry (clip-less or clip removed). I like traditional blade shapes (drop point, spear). I have many Case knives that I know would fit the bill but I would prefer something non-traditional looking but also bullet proof... like if Emerson made the Fallkniven U2. I would like to spend less than $150 and nothing made in China. Thanks!

oops my bad for the double post.... I worked at ritz carlton for 4 years and I always had some kinda blade on me, Actually I used to rock a 940 always clipped to the inside of my hip. Legal? Maybe not. Do I give a crap? no. Has anyone ever busted me? No! Spyderco Cricket is nice too....

Whenever I see a thread like this, my first thought for an office knife is always the SAK. It's just sheeple friendly and they have one with locking blades.

If that isn't your style, I'd suggest a Spyderco Chapparal in carbon fiber maybe. Deep wire pocket clip if you choose to use it. $110-120ish.
