Two 303s.

The top knife was made in 2008 and until recently was in my pocket every day. I still carry it 5 days a week but on the weekends I may carry something else depending on where I am going.

The bottom knife I found in my desk drawer recently and was made between 1967 and 1972. I started carrying a 303 in about 1972 so this is likely the first Cadet I ever purchased. I used the knife daily at work for many years and skinned many an electrical cable with it. You can tell I used the sheepsfoot blade primarily as about half of it has been sharpened away.

I had no idea I had kept the old knife but am glad I found it. I thought it was neat to be able to compare my first and present knives and see the changes from then to now. The 303 is such a versatile little knife and I will probably always have one close by.

Beauties, my favorite pattern. One slight correction though, the bottom #303 in your photo is actually a '72-'86 made by Camillus, '67-'72 versions had brass handle pins, no model number stamp and were made by Schrade.
Here is the only comparison photo I have handy at the moment, the bottom knife is the '67-'72 by Schrade, the top '72-'86 by Camillus. Unfortunately, the bottom knife has had the master blade bobbed, but you can see the difference in the handles and the general appearance differences between the two versions.

Sonny14, thanks for the information. I know very little about the history of Buck knives and I appreciate you giving me the correct data.

You're welcome, I specialize in the 300 Series, so I know a little. 300bucks is the ultimate Buck Guru, and he is usually lurking around this thread, he can greatly expand on my info, everything I know about Buck was learned from him.

Found this pic today ... now it's my time to be jealous. :D
Nice find Sonny14, looks real clean.:thumbup:

Thanks, it is in very good condition. I am finding I really like the "California Clip" master blade especially. It sharpened up very nicely too, cuts paper like a razor.

I only have a small Buck collection, but These are all USA made and I like it that way.
I remember my dad used to carry a 110, so I bought one for myself :)

For JoeN and Sonny14,

I could not find my photo of the 303 line up of early models. But, here is a photo of 301s that's an 'almost'. The knife on the left is the first Schrade made 300 with grooved bolster. It was sized the same as the first stamped 301 but had no stamped model number. Lets just all call it the first 301. After that you see a progress of knives, large rivets for Schrade made models, small rivets for Camillus made ( missing one 303 small rivet where you would split hairs by a extra brass liner added in) then on to two Camillus model 303s with no rivets. One with 303 stamped on reverse tang (not shown) and one with 303 on front.
This more likely confuses you than helps. I will see about a decent photo. That warcliff has been sharpened down for certain.

300Bucks

Fourth from right side has a small brass rivet, patina just about hides it.

No more confusing than trying to determine via the database which is which, posting the photos actually makes it somewhat easier. I have two versions of the 301 so far. One with pins, ('68-'71), one with front side model number and no pins; both Camillus, (looking for a SC version). I do have a first version 303 by CC, (not first 303, first 303 by CC), with handle pins, and one Schrade 303 with large pins, (second version, regular bolsters). Still looking for versions of the CC 301 & 303 with "BUCK" shield...no love so far, but always on the look. The lined bolster version pops up occasionally, but they are getting a bit costy...maybe I'll win the Powerball and be able to buy 'em all??
Thanks for posting the photos, and thank you for providing all the data that you have on various threads. Having all that info makes collecting easier and safer, as you can't safely collect if you don't know what you are looking at. Thanks to you I know a little bit about what I am looking at; thanks.

i picked up a new Buck Knives Platinum Boone and Crockett Boning Knife from a local store as my Christmas present to myself prior to the holidays. i finally had to try it out. worked great. love it.

I felt I needed a knife made in U.S.A. So I bought 3 . Might need to send the special in for an inspection though.
