Official Buck Picture Thread

I usually wait and see if one of the other 300 interested folks answer these questions, but time has passed.

No Gasman it is not a knock off, it was made in the Buck factory, that particular smooth red delrin scaled 309 was issued in 1989. You can find the same scale in 301's. 303's,309's and 305's. Buck also made red sawcut scales in 1992 but are usually only found in models 301,303 and 305. If anyone has a Red sawcut scale 309, a photo in the Sunday Photo show would be great to see. They are standard BOS heat treated 420hc steel. They can still be found to purchase at knife shows and on the 'bay', the smooth scale more common than the sawcut. There is also a smooth red Clipper model which is a 305 with its small blade replaced with a scissors and a split ring on one end for a key ring. Sort of a tip of the cap by Buck to the Swiss Army Knife. At the end of the Clipper production run some red sawcut scales were issued and their scissors will be stamped WENGER. Very rare variation. I have never seen in hand the black sawcut version which was suppose to also be made at the production end. 300Bucks

Thanks. I only own a couple Buck knives but this 303 is pretty sweet. It may be my gateway Buck. :D

Absolutely amazing collection of my favorite knife! I WAS feeling good about my little but growing collection of them...was.
Thank you for sharing. It's very inspiring.

Could not have said it better myself, inspirational indeed. Emspop, if you need an heir let me know!

Thanks guys.

It's taken several years to get them all together. I discovered the variety of scales years ago and it wasn't until 2-3 years ago I put a list together and figured what I was missing.

The 303 is one of the easier ones to find at flea markets and shows. I would pick anyone they I could find. Then keep my eyes peeled for a better example of the one I had.

As far as I know, I'm only missing a couple if production versions and I'm always watching for NIB examples to replace some of the "used" ones.

The folks here are a great help too. I seen an older model for sale with a wood handle and emailed a very knowledgeable fella here (300Bucks) about its authenticity. He saved me a couple of bucks that day.

Great community here with a great deal of knowledge to be shared.

If you have to have a hobby (or vice), there are far worse things than collecting 303s.

Deleted a duplicate post, hope this reposts ok...my phone was acting up.

I'm not a tactical knife guy but this thing is a tank! I got it this morning and took it to work. I may just become my new everyday work knife.

Gotta agree about the knowledge available here, especially 300bucks, but of course it involves the torture of seeing someone else having a knife that you would die to have. Took me years to gather together the humble collection I have too, but you must have better swap meets around than I do, I've only found a couple of Bucks locally; most were found online. Your photo includes versions I never knew even existed let alone heard of, so thanks very much for posting it, now I know what else I have to look for.

It's been a long road getting my group to where it is. We have a local gun and knife show every month. The same organizer does the show in 2 other cities within an hour or so from me too. I'm also fortunate to have one of the few real knife stores in my town that's been peddling knives for a half century or more. These guys all know mw and what I'm interested in. Between them, this forum and occasionally the auction sites, I've been able to fill in the blanks.

I built a list based on the education I got here, the BCCI and those catalogs and newsletters. I'm hoping to put an extensive write up together for the benefit of BCCI members at some point. Probably this winter if I can find the time.

Good luck gathering them all up!

A new write up would be great. I have copied every single document from this forum and AAPK of 300's that I could find, (I think I have most of the "300 Series database", but even he hasn't listed some of the versions that you show in that photo). Unfortunately there is only one swap meet near me worth going to, (two Buck knives in weekly visits in two years), and no gun shows in our county at all. I've gotten lucky at a couple of yard/estate sales, but knife hunting offers slim pickens around here. The nearest knife show is once a year and a six hour drive away down in dreaded SOCAL, makes me miss Georgia & TN.
I think joining BCCI was one of the things that helped me a lot too, I look forward to meeting fellow members at SOCAL Knife Expo in 2017 and look forward to your write up.

What is the tan one with the feather inlay? For some reason I'm really drawn to it..

It's a " Bob Timberlake " edition. Iron wood handles and silver feather inlay. Iirc these were done as a special project for Bass Pro shops or Cabelas. It's the only 303 I own that I probable won't carry.
