Official HI Drink?

YVSA : Does beer get too old setting in a dark cool place? Hawk brought up a couple of cases of Shiner Bock at the convention here last year and there was a case plus left. Barb squirreled it away. I had her bring out a bottle for dinner the other night and it didn't even taste like beer, it was way too sweet!!!!
Maybe it's just me and the medications I'm on?

Medications will definitely change or cause you to lose your taste!
Mom has lost all taste, nothing is good, nothing tastes like it is supposed to.

Beer does have a shelf life. Can't remember the time periods, anymore. When I was in the Lounge/Pkg store business, I personally made sure my stocks were constantly rotated. All beers, IIRC were coded for date. I used to know the codes, no longer. Budweiser was particularly critical of their stocks. The Delivery drivers were supposed to check the stocks at a retailers when he delivered, exchange it, if they found some outdated stock or get the retailer to blow it out the store on sale. I knew of two bar owners that didn't like to rotate their stock, too lazy. The Distributor sent in Supervisors periodically to spot check stocks at a retailers. I know of two Budwieser Delivery Drivers that got fired because of outdated stock at a Retailers.

I had a decent business. I would get 3 to 4 heavy deliveries a week from Bud. It all wouldn't fit in my walk in cooler, so every night before I left I would pull out stocks from my cooler , put in fresher beer from my storage area toward the back of the cooler and than put the put the coldest beer (oldest beer) in front.

I also did that with my beer boxes at the bar. Once a month, pull out all the beer, clean the beer box, (boy, can they get nasty in a month) and put beer bottles back in, making sure any beer initially taken out of the beer box was put on top. Many did not like to do that. Some of my people at the bar didn't like doing that, once again too much work. I either assisted them or explain to them the next day, you didn't do the coolers. Let's do them tonight. I eventually had to put in cameras. Resisted it for years, but did my net profit ever go up after the cameras went in.

Sitting in a chair near the fire sharping the ak for the next days work. Taking a break and a sip of Dows 20 year old tawny port. Warm feet and a warm belly from the port fortified with brandy and aged 20 years in a oak cask. Lifes Good:)

Mattjerom, or anyone else that enjoys fine Oporto or Xerez, if you have the chance, try some Hungarian Tokoi Asu.

It should say x number ( usually 3,4,or 5 ) of puttonyos on the label. That's the number of buckets of grapes ( that have gone to the "noble rot" or started to become raisins and are extra high in sugar ) that were added to each barrel of regular tokay grapes.

If you're lucky enough to find a bottle of "Tokoi Essencia" that's the stuff made from nothing but the extra sweet grapes.

For hard to find wines I have always had good luck at www.wines.com fair prices too. They haven't heard of it so it is proably a rare find. I'll keep looking though Thanks Rusty:)

You guys have taste too rich for my blood. Give me a Coke or a Dr.Pepper and a hot dog sammitch and I am good to go. ;)

Edited to add: Just so that you know, Squrril brains, Peanutbutter and Jelly on a sammitch are also good eatins.

Dave, I liked your squirrel brains with a straw idea:D LOL! Good survival technique while out hunting too:D

Be careful carrying small straws around on your person--LEO's might think you're sucking up other things and not into your mouth;) "NO, its not a coke straw officer! you see you just take the squirrel like this and..." "hey get you hands off me I'm just trying to show you what I do with my straw!!":D

Just think of the smilin'squirrel on the can, undergoing trepanation!
I know its a slightly different procedure, but all I can picture is Ray Liotta from Hannibal:barf: :D

Doesn't Howard Wallace know of a little place in Seattle that serves an authentic Nepalese fermented beverage? As he put it, "...best served in a dirty glass" :D

Yvsa; many well made/hand crafted beers will continue to age and gain character for up to six months (I beleive) after brewing. Some brews are sweet by intention (ex. Guinness Stout) others bitter by intention(ex. Bass ale). Saw a chart depicting the different characters of beer (sweet, bitter, full body, light body, etc...) with prominent examples of each and also crossover beers that straddled more than one catagory. I don't drink. But if I'm drinking an beer anyway -make mine a black & tan :)

Don't let Uncle Bill fool you with all those chocolate squirrel brain smoothy jokes :( He knows full well that the Cantina Squirrels are his first line of defense against would be evil-doers. A rough and tumble bunch, they are the true protectors of the HI khukuri stockpile! The dust bunnies shake with fear and dive even further under Uncle's bed at their mere mention!

{...free Internet access at the Public Library just doesn't allow for cartoons to illustrate :(}

Another coffee fan is chiming in... I still think Heineken is to be "official" HI drink, in honour of Uncle Bill.

I've read hot buttered tea is popular among Nepal. Did anybody try it?
