I've never been much of a stockman guy. I've had a few over my knife-carrying life, and I have a couple good ones now. But they've never really grabbed me the way a two-blade jack has. Something occurred to me this morning, an idea for a one-month challenge. For all of June, I'm going to put away this peanut I've been carrying, and instead carry this U.S.-made 34OT Old Timer stockman:

Beginning Wednesday, I'm going to put 'er through the paces and see what it is you stockman loyalists see. I might even spey an animal or two if necessary!

I wonder if any of you guys will join me? For the month of June, grab a pattern out of your knife box that you've owned but never really carried on a day-in, day-out basis. Maybe you've got a trapper in the tool box, or a toothpick in the sock drawer, or a congress laying around somewhere. Whatever it is, try EDCing something out of the ordinary for the entire month of June. Who's in? :)

I'll play.

Unfortunately, my slipjoint collection is very thin outside of my victorinox saks, but I will carry my K Johnson Kingwood Trapper for the month of June.

I picked this up from Keith not that long ago - and it's been in my pocket on and off.

It's a great knife and deserves to be carried more.:D

It will ride with me during June. I will have to find an animal to spey too!!!

Pics by Keith - my skills are lacking...

Mark, as soon as I read this I knew what I had to do. Now this is going to sound like heresy (so to speak) to some around here, but I've had a Case/TB Chestnut Bone CV Swayback Jack for quite a while, but hardly ever carry it.

I'll sing the praises of its fit & finish along with everyone else, but there are a couple things I just didn't care for ..... the wharncliffe as the main blade, and the handle seems backwards to me (I think I'd like a Saddlehorn better, with the "end curve" going into my fingers rather than away from them).

Anyway, I'll accept your challenge Mark, and replace my Peanut  with the SBJ for the month of June! ;)

I may try to carry this one for a week, bought it back in sept2010 for my 25th and rarely carried it, even have two!!! the "user"one is still new, carried 10 times maybe and never sharpened
so i've sharpened it today (was half dull...) and carried all day long, even cut steak with the spey which has a partial patina

been carrying too many canoes, stockman and too little trappers in the last months, let's see how a trapper is again!!! after all it's my fist pattern and one of my favs

hope it's good enough to enter :D

Sadly all I have here with me at my parents house for the summer are stockman knives. So yes, I will join you in carrying a stockman for the whole month of June! My Hen & Rooster seems to be calling my name.

Alright,

June will be a Case split back whittler week. I have yet to carry it. The bone is beautiful. I am in.

I'm going to trade my Mini Copperhead for my 104OT for a month. This could be interesting.

I'm already freaking out. Went into the knife rolls for this one. I'll have to carry another knife at times, but this old guy will be in the coveted right front pocket position for a month. I tried to pick a knife I never carry.

Okay, now I'm scared ..... Chris is the guy that's handling the money for our 2011 BF Knife, and he thinks June is only a week long? :D :) ;)

I'm in. A good looking knife, but one I've not carried much ...

Case Large Saddlehorn in Mediterranean Blue jigged bone. Quite a pocketful at 5-3/4"

Not my pic

Count me in. I'll be EDCing this GEC conductor for the month of June, and I'll start today just to get used to it. Probably has had at most two days of pocket time up til now. Looking forward to posting some "after" images at the end of the month when the little Tidioute has developed some character.

I'll give this a try... I'll carry this CSC Cannitler. I've carried it only a handful of times before but usually only for a day or two

I"m not putting away my pocket clips and one handed openers to take the full "Traditional Challenge." But I did rescue an old Boker Stockman with celluloid scales from the knife store Friday. I'm going to try and use it exclusively in June.

I'm planning to pull out a Bulldog Muskrat for this project. Here's what it looks like on June 1:

I'm thinking this is going to be very hard for me to pull off because I have a small group of knives that I like to carry and not carrying them for a month will require a lot of restraint.

Corey, that doesn't really surprise me for some reason. Do you have a pattern in mind that you might like to try like a copperhead or a canoe or... I'd be glad to offer you one of mine for the summer if you would like to give something else a try. Give me a PM if you'd be interested.

Alright, I'm in too. I haven't carried this little Imperial jack much because of it's small size. I know that it can get the job done despite it's 2 3/4" frame. It's about time it got a fair shake.

I may carry another knife at the same time but will make every possible effort to only use this one.

Alright -- lots of folks signing on! I just touched up the edges on my Old Timer and dropped a little oil on the joints. Already this morning I opened a new DVD for my kids with the main blade. Also, I've also noticed that, with that spey blade in pocket, livestock have avoided me all day. ;)

I'll play, but with which knife I haven't decided. It's technically the 1st now, so I guess I should decide soon, but since I keep odd hours, it's not "tomorrow" for me until I sleep and wake up the next day. Whichever it'll be, it's going to have carbon steel blades, and I'm not going to polish and oil the blade, and let a natural patina develop.

The choices are:

Moore Maker 3300 small stockman
Cold Steel small stockman
Case 1974 stockman 6332
Case 1978 stockman 6318HE
