Is Hiragana Japanese? Just curious. Had some friends visiting from Japan last week, and was showing us katakana. Also mentioned several other ... Forms? I don't recall hiragana, though.

Yes, Hiragana is Japanese. It's one of the three Japanese "alphabets" The other two are Katakana (like you said) and Kanji. Japanese writing is an accumulation of Kanji, and Kana (Hiragana and Katakana) You may have also heard of Romaji, but Romaji isn't actually Japanese. It's a Romanization of the Japanese language. It's used to help out foreigners with the language.
