I recently learned from Nasty that something has come up and he wasn’t sure if he could host this year’s MWKK. After talking about it with my mom (this was actually her idea) , I’ve decided to switch houses with her for Memorial Day Weekend and offer to host the MWKK from my old house. I ran the idea by Nasty and Yangdu and both gave me their support.
If held, the MWKK will be at my old place just south of Marion, IL. Southern Illinois is a virtual outdoorsman’s paradise, with plenty of hiking trails in a number of State Parks. The house is out in the country with a backyard fit for many a tent and a spot for bonfires. Those who don’t want to rough it so much can sleep in my old bedroom (I have an inflatable sleeping pad if needed), maybe the living room, or even one of the hotels 5-10 minutes away.
The schedule for this year’s MWKK will be the same as the previous ones. Dinner out at a restaurant Friday night for those who arrive, then the box o’ blems, woodchopping, and workshops by those willing to volunteer Saturday, brews and a bonfire Saturday night, then more wood-khukuri contact and some hiking on Sunday. I’ll do some grilling as needed; anyone wanting to bring grub for breakfast is welcome to it.
Officially the MWKK is 5/27 and 5/28, but you can show up Friday evening and stay through Monday morning. At least six people including me is desired, but I’m more than willing to make do with less if they’re willing to make the trip (this is the first time I’ve really done anything like this anyway, so I won’t mind) .
Those who can make it let me know.
Bob
