Official Signup- Ethan's Fall Gathering 2012 - October 26, 27 & 28

Ideally I'd want everything locked up. TSA doesn't need to touch my goods.

I agree. But it probably won't stop them.

I looked into flying with a firearm some time back, but luckily didn't have to fly. I would disassemble the gun, place it in a small locked box, and then place that box and my ammo into a larger locked container, then put that in my suitcase. Hopefully making the firearm too much of a hassle to steal.

Study the regulations. Good luck.

my understanding was that firearms specifically had to be secured with a lock that they could NOT get into, and if they DID open OR lose it that it was major bad ju-ju for the TSA. This was the advantage of traveling with firearms. It had to be inspected and secured in front of an agent, and then nobody but you gets to open it again. And yes, I'd want my ENTIRE checked bag covered that way.

but I'm not looking at the regs when I speak this.

I just read the TSA info, and it looks like daizee is right about the gun, not sure if the baggage can be secured the same way. Here is the link I found.

I have ALSO heard (i.e. hearsay) that you can do the same with a starter pistol, and thus keep the TSA thugs out of your baggage. Best way to ensure your crap doesn't get lost or stolen AND you don't have to worry about firearm permits at your destination (except maybe for DC or something stupid).

Essentially this is what I'm aiming to do, with one of my pistols.

I've flown with firearms a good amount and and I can tell you that they do look inside of the case, pretty much every time it comes back with only 1 lock.

I always give my checked bag to TSA tell them it has a firearm and aske them if they want to see it right then. Keeps them from messing with the lock. So far this has always worked.

Well, we at capacity plus some. But thats cool. And Ethan is thrilled beyond imagination.

This one should be epic.

More intel to come.

Thanks Moose!

We are very excited about coming down. We had such a blast the last time. We'll likely be climbing in the Red River Gorge the two weeks before the Gathering and we'll drive down from there. Should significantly reduce our travel time!

Can't wait to see everyone again!
