Offtopic: GEC Rattleback?

Strange. . .
Both my GEC #53 Red Stag stockman and Cripple Creek equal end stockman rattle clockwise, spin smoothly and silently counter-clockwise; while my both Gec #53 2nd cut stag stockman and GEC #53 stag muskrat spin smoothly and silently in BOTH directions. Of course, I'm doing this in Washington, D.C. . . .

Meanwhile deep in the hall of the mountain king (my loungeroom) in my secret laboratory (the desk where the PC sits) I have been conducting exhaustive and conclusive experiments (sitting here spinning a knife round to see what happens). At one point a mob of angry villagers armed with burning torches and pitchforks interrupted this valuable research (the boys and SWMBO wanting to say goodbye as they left for school and work respectively).
I tell you the life of of a mad scientist/trad knife geek is not what it used to be. .

Findings: I used a Tidioute 538208 Muskrat with 2nd cut burnt jigged stag on a variety of surfaces.
Clockwise direction was free spinning. Anti clockwise resulted in rattleback of varying intensity from negligble (wooden desk surface) to "ooh hey it does do it!"(plastic lid of printer).
This then makes mincemeat of my Coreolis effect suggestion.

I'm happy to confirm that the #54 Harness Jack is a Rattleback! Spins clockwise. Rattles counterclockwise.

Can't wait to show the boys down at the feed store :D

Neat thread/topic!

Guess it's an equal-end/cigar thing. My Buck 303 is a good "spinner", something I learned the first day I carried it to work and used it as a worry stone. Spins exceedingly well in both directions -- I chalk at least some of it up to the broad 3-spring construction giving plenty of smooth, low-friction surface area to facilitate spinning.

I'll have to try this with the few equal-enders I've got at home, see if I can find any "rattlers". I'm glad I'm not the only knife-spinner here, but now I have amusing mental images of knife collectors around the world dragging rolls or boxes of knives out and spinning them with clipboards and spectacles. Science! :D
