Hey guys, just a quick one for ya. Have any of you heard of, or used on of these folding bowies from muela?

I've looked at it a few times, and considering im looking for a SS 7" bowie, it kinda fits the bill, oh yeah, except for the fact that it folds. :D

Fonly, I am really a pain in the butt when it comes to quality..I bought 2 Muelas earlier this year...after close inspection..I got rid of them as fast as I could...just in case they were contagious...I didn't want my other knives to catch..Muelaospaoskafrey..(made up word). Seriously man, I know your looking for a Stainless 7" knife..Check out SOG..or Cold Steel..both decent knives for the money, and you can trust them a heck of alot more than a Muela...
I bet some guys have muelas, and are gonna jump on me here..but I will stick to my guns here...Muelas look great in pics in Catalogues...I used to want that Muela with the Diecast metal handle with rubber inserts and a saw back blade..the fighter...when I was a kid. A friend bought one, I handled it, and was glad he shelled out the $20-30 and not me.
OK, sorry...I just want to save you the wasted time..really. Gene:)

Do you know if they were under the name Alice or Ruko? I know the only really good muelas are the higher end ones. I had a cheapie from muela, as in it was acutally under the muela name and it wasn't horrible, but I bought it at zellers for $8, cdn. Man, you just look at the pictures they have and your dumbfounded by how nice they look, its really quite amazing.

No, I don't know who it was under...they are very photo friendly knives..I just wouldn't trust my butt to one.

well... i USED to own a muela and ended up selling it to a friend not because it was a bad knife but just because i needed the cash at the time..

and trust me... he beat the living heck outta that thing...

used it to chop throw a 6 inch diameter tree.. has been used as a pry bar many times and... as been used for shaving and making wood shavings

good knife, relatively easy to maintain and decent price ($75 canadian)

fonly since you like warriors and wonders try giving jay an e-mail..

i recall jay having a few muela's in store but he might have gotten rid of them...

i think i saw that folding bowie u posted on there at the store once... a while ago though i believe...

just gotta bite the bullet and get one... if u like it then great, if not it can become a loaner, a beautiful display piece, or a beater

cheers

i use a muela for fishing as i don`t give a rats ass if i lose it :) like gunknifenut said get a SOG.

Can't Muela spend a little more time and bucks and put decent guards on their fixed blades? They use "decent" steel (better than 420J2, at any rate). Why put such crappy looking guards on their Bowies? I don't get it.

I had one, still may, just haven't seen it in 10 years.

It was a 3.5" hunter with a stag handle, I bought it because at the time I thought it was made pretty dang solid, but that was in the late 80s and things change.

I've handled a fair share of folding bowie's and personally I always liked the Hubertus model, their a neat design and add a cool factor to a collection IMO.

Buy design I wouldn't want to give it a ton of heavy use in the full open position, but like a I said they have cool factor.

Can you chop with this folding Muela? Is it tough enough for such tasks? If not, then I do not see any point of having such a long blade.
I gave away my Muela that I bought in Spain. The main reason for getting rid of it was because I did not use it much. At the end of the day knife is a piece of sharpened steel and there are many people who still live off the land using tools of much worse quality than Muela...

I'll put it this way. I wouldn't spend $135 for anybody's "folding Bowie." The concept just doesn't make sense to me. Any knife with a blade that long seems intended to be used for at least some chopping, and that would almost certainly overstress the blade pivot pin causing it to break at the worst possible moment. I learned this the hard way while using an old Case folding hunter when I was about 13 years old I think. Some of Muela's fixed blade models look like reasonably good knives, though.

I'd rather buy a Leuko/Puuko set from Ragnar and have some change left over. :D

I've never owned a Muela but I do have a folding bowie I bought in Germany in the 70s. It looked cool to me at the time but I have yet to find a single thing it can do better or even as well as other knives. You just end up with the resheathing hassle of a fixed blade combined with the opening and closing hassle of a folder and no appreciable benefit that I have found.

If you want a 7" blade, buy a RAT-7 in D2 or a Kabar D2 Extreme.

There are still copies of the Becker-7 Extreme floating around made out of S30V.

Mula fixed blades are usually a good bargain for the money. They are very popular in Europe. There folders in general are not very strong in the locks.

Yeah, dont get me wrong here guys, Im not buying this for my needs, just considering what I was looking and when came acrost this thing, it sparked my intrest.

As for the BK77, never thought about it because of it price, way too much. But, I was looking at the leuko, that 8" "buchering and camp chore" knife. looks decent, anyone have one of those and like it?

How thin are they, 1/8"?

The Fallkniven A1 or A2 seems like the best knives to suit your description. You should check em out. ;)

You can get the A1 for 130.00 USD around the web.

I've wanted a fallkniven for a bit, its just I dont have the money for them.:(
