OG Stripper Goodness - BAE

Strippers are the best!

Words I never thought I'd utter, but here we are......

We need a spine shot! How thick does it measure? I've seen various thicknesses for these so I'm curious if it's the thicker or thinner variety.

Congrats on the sweet piece! Love absolutely everything about this one.

Nice stripper Badger šŸ™‚šŸ‘
You're probably gonna hate me for suggesting that this handle might be that old school higher contrast tan canvas micarta.. which is cool & uncommon in its own right. I have a HRLM with this same type contrast tan canvas, which is why I would suggest this.

Hey Jaxx! From what I’ve read, these only came with black coating and Tigerhide scales. I’ve not seen anything else either when I was trying to confirm. All the pics of these Tigerhide scales look very much like this one.

Man. Im jealous
Timmy… Dude! This one *might* have been YOURS at one point!!! 😲

I came across this old pic you posted: (ETA - from here: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/anyone-ever-done-their-own-satin-finish.1362586/#post-15683737)

INFI Dimples are like fingerprints… and looking at the above pic compared to mine (below), it sure looks like it may be the same knife!

(ETA2 - Just took a higher-contrast photo and messed with it a bit to show the dimples better.)

I very well could be wrong. It's happened before...a lot šŸ˜…
But... I tripped over a black canvas BAe on BusseCollector (1st pic), & one here that was reground by JK Knives (I think) that had tan canvas scales inside of 10min.
And this post here vvv on this thread- https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/how-about-a-few-zt-pics.223226/#post-1840010
No, I have 2 MS's with tan handles, and a BA-e with tan handles also.

I believe you can special order the tan, you may want to call the shop to be sure though.
:D:D

Chip,
How is it you have 2 ZT SJ's and I don't even have 1? ;):D
I have a ZTNO handy...quick snap- same type tan handles (2nd pic) Look at your 4th pic down. šŸ¤”

I don’t think any original BAEs were made with tigerhide canvas. If any were it was after they were discontinued and a bladeshow special or the like. Those are likely brown canvas or even a unique batch of black canvas.

Edited to add snakeskin was around at the time, but I’m 99% sure tigerhide came a bit later.

Edited again to say I think these are black canvas.

@Jerry Busse could confirm.

Sorry, missed the request. It’s 0.257ā€ thick.

I’ll keep that in mind. Not planning to let it go atm.

Yeah, I saw @mqqn ā€˜s modded one this afternoon after posting. LOL.

There are definitely layers in this canvas, and the layer that looks like stripes in the scales is very greenish.

šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

I oiled it, will see how it looks after a few days.

See, that’s opposite of what I read. I saw they only originally came in black coating with Tigerhide canvas.

I definitely don’t think these are black canvas. I can only wish they were Snakeskin… but alas, they’re surely not. They’re either an early version of Tigerhide (which I’m leaning towards), or some odd tan canvas like Jaxx mentioned.

I can tell you 100% that Badger Attack Ergos were not exclusively in tigerhide canvas.

I can also tell you that tigerhide first appeared either at the very end of the model run or after.

I do believe what you have was sold as black canvas at the time.

Well let’s just say it’s difficult to pin down. I know there was black coated Tigerhide at some point. I’ve read old posts that said it was the main run. It’s quite difficult to find any good information and/or pictures from ~24 years ago, but please, be my guest and give it a shot. Prove me wrong, I’m done searching myself. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Here are some new pics I just took, after I oiled it last night.

Stripes are now pretty evident. It’s gotta be Tigerhide IMO. Maybe some odd brown/tan canvas as Jaxx suggested if not. There are definite layers of (slightly) different colors. It’s not black canvas. Not even that old greenish black canvas. Frankly, I really don’t care anymore at this point lmao, it’s badass whatever it is.

And one in some direct sunlight…

It’s difficult to get the different colors to show up correctly in photos. In person, the color separation is much more apparent and the stripes really stand out.

A couple spine shots for @The Knife Life

Your new pix literally have me thinking that I was wrong, and it looks more like old black canvas micarta instead of tan... šŸ¤”

I found a link to Bad Mojo via the Wayback Machine for you to check out a few images of other BA-e's. vvv

Regardless, as you said, it is old school badazz, & nice snag! šŸ™‚šŸ¤™

If it’s black canvas micarta, it’s the brownest black canvas I’ve ever seen. Perhaps it’s somehow changed color as it has aged? šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø It’s no shade of black now…

I broke out some old e-handles I have one is my first Busse SH-E I got from Andre (Papathud) over 25 years ago

They were all sold as black canvas

some look like "snakeskin light" as I call it. in certain light it can look green-ish, grey-ish, tan-ish and black-ish.
when you hand oils or wd-40 or cooking oil gets to any of them they look black.

here are a BM E, SH E, and NO E

The SH E is the oldest as it was not ground flush with the scales
The BM E and NO E were around the same time with the BM E being stripped and looks like it could be a sister to that BA E ?

I have had several over the last 26 years and have seen tan (which none of these are) black canvas, black paper (were mostly the LE's ) snake skin and so on.

Pics for ya all
