OGG Custom Military Fighter – Randall style – RARE!!!
Here is an extremely rare knife that is a one-of-a-kind made by legendary knifemaker Robert (Bob) Ogg. Mr. Ogg is well-known for his stylish folding knives and was not known to make many fixed blade knives. This is one of the rare fixed blade knives he made and is the only one he made of this style.
Bill Moran was once quoted as saying that “Bob Ogg made some of the first custom folding knives”.
Robert Ogg made his first knife while working on wooden oil rigs during the 1930's. It was was forged from one of the large nails used in rig construction. He began selling knives in 1964. Each folding knife was numbered in sequence by Bob. He kept a log of each sale by serial number.
According to his step-son, Max Burnett (who took over Mr. Ogg’s business after he passed away in 1999), this particular knife was a special made-to-order knife and was sold in 1997.
The blade is 7 3/8" long and is made of 1095 high carbon steel. Blade thickness is from 3/16" thick steel stock. Overall length is 12 3/4" long. The blade is not mirror-polished but appears to be more of a hand-polished satin-finish. The handle is made of black linen micarta. The double-lugged guard is made of nickel silver. The pommel is mirror polished aluminum. Another nice touch for this knife is that the guard is slightly angled which gives it a little more of a "stealthier" look.
The knife has a blade style similar to a Randall Model 1-7 and has a handle style similar to Randall Model 12-11. I don’t know the Randall models very well so there may be a better comparison for this style of knife. I’ve also seen several Gil Hibben knives with a similar handle style to this one.
This knife is stamped “OGG” on one side of the blade and has serial number “2372” stamped on the other side of the blade.
This knife is in mint condition. Never used. Never sharpened. Never carried. The knife comes with a simple black leather sheath but this knife is really screaming for a nice Randall-made sheath.
The knife is being sold for - $600.00 - $500.00 - $350.00 - $325.00 - SOLD.
The free shipping costs include Priority Mail insured shipping with Delivery Confirmation. I will then email the winning bidder the insurance # and confirmation # (tracking #) when shipped.
This knife is a piece of history. It is a rare custom made fixed blade example from a man known so well for his custom folders.
First “I’ll take it” either on forum or email will get it.
