Oh help me please Doctor

I don’t have one, but I like A. G. Russell’s latest version with the small scalpel in in place of the spatula. The model is a small doctors knife as it’s only 3” long; hopefully he comes out with a 3 5/8” full size version.

I got one in MOP for my brother the dentist.

Personally, I like the small size; thinking about getting one in smooth white bone for myself.

Don't you just love it when you pick an infrequent pattern just to find a dedicated thread that pairs well for the day?!?

Picked up a Frost Cutlery Steel Warrior doctor's knife with spatula at a pawn shop. Checked Frost's site and all of them are out of stock. Don't know if that means out of production or not. I had a couple by old classic makers (pre 1950's) years ago, but sold them :-(

Good thread idea JP as it's a lesser talked about pattern. I try to have at least one example of each Traditional pattern, no Coffin Jack at the present though.

This is my only Dr. a modest one but I think it's actually rather good. And yes, it has been used to cut pills (you have to do it in a confined space as the other half tends to rocket across the room :D:eek:) so it has been 'used in anger' as it were;)

Yeah some killer painkillers a stupid doctor gave me (100 at once) when she refused to believe I had broken my knee -until I forced another Dr to give me an MRI scan showing the break. I don't recommend trying to walk around with a broken knee for days on end, it's stupefying agony even with giant pain pills:barf::eek::grumpy:

The RR chops up stuff very nicely mind.

Will, I believe you, even if I can toy with a Dr knife to cut the pills as a reward, I swear I'll never break a knee! ;)

Does that secondary on the Doctor's Knife have an edge? If not what's it for? Stirring things I suppose? Curious... I've never handled one, only seen them on the site here.

I think the spatula is for pill counting? In a less finicky age, maybe it served as a tongue depressor? And it looks like they'd spread peanut butter pretty well. :p

Some great M.D.'s in this thread, everyone! This pattern is waaay underrepresented in my collection, especially for how much I like it.

Well, the spatula on the full-sized doc is fairly sturdy -- it might hold up to peanut butter, but I could see it bending under that kind of lateral load. The baby doc's is right out, that would crumple in a jar of PB. It is for counting pills, traditionally, and while it's not really suitable for load-heavy duty like mentioned in this thread I prefer the 2-blade spatula docs to their 1-bladed or spear+pen counterparts. If you don't take any medicine then you may not see the appeal. :o

I have only two Cases, a Case Brothers baby doc in Case's antique jigged bone and a regular-sized one in 6.5 bonestag. I've carried both but the baby doc is angling for some serious watch pocket time.

I briefly had a third doc, a full-sized single-blade in antique green bone, but it had to go back. I do keep an eye out for the pattern. That green bone Remington that appeared earlier in the thread pops up from time to time, and last time I waited too long to pick one up for price I'm embarrassed to have missed. :grumpy:

It is a really lovely small knife!
