Oh man, someone talk me out of a YCS

I think it is because the user I have on the way is twice as heavy as the typical one.
At least that is what you said when I bought it but I will compare the weight to the one I have and let you know.

Thanks. I'm really intersted in the difference.
Mine is also "the heavy version". Once it comes I'll post a review.

I got this pic off the forum. It belongs to one of the forumites here.
Boy it looks so badazz with the longer handle!

If (hah -- if! I mean when!) I order one, I'm definitely going to request a thinner, shorter handle. Really, they all look good, but it's just a question of comfort during use. Man, i love that blade profile though!

So I never really paid attention to the Yvsa Cherokee Special until today's DOTD (I think the diamond patterned and ornately carved handles kind of steered me away). I haven't even received my custom ordered M-43 yet and I'm so close to custom ordering a YCS.

Someone talk me out of it. Tell me the handle is too fat and uncomfortable. Tell me the awesome shape of the blade, with its beautifully swept back tip, is an optical illusion, and looks awful in person. Tell me that it chops as well as a Mora, and its two kardas are little more than butterknives!

Ok, so maybe instead of talking me out of it, I'm looking for a little enabling! Would anyone like to share their glowing reviews of the YCS? I'm looking for a thinner spine than the standard .5" that seem to be the norm recently. How does your YCS with a 3/8" spine hold up during chopping? Lastly, too fat a handle actually was a real concern -- any thoughts on this?

No, not even gonna try - when you're bitten by the bug it's way past - Too Late!!! :p :p :p
Oh, and when speaking of the drawbacks of the accessory tools for the YCS don't forget the worthless Awl without its desired triangular point.  :D

Years ago several of us old farts finally figured out that for the average person anything over 28 ounces was overkill... That is with the exception of the BIG Kukri used for Big Work which should be reserved for vehicle camping so no one would ever have to lug the damned thing around... :)
And this is from the guy who always defended the Humongous knife... :D

Oh! And thanks everyone for the praise y'all heap on my YCS design!
Actually the design is sort of a goof as what I was really shooting for was a duplicate of the 17" Foxy Folly only with my decorations, accessories, and silver furniture that I'm no longer physically fit too carry - or use. :o :(

Coincidental accident or blessing in disguise?

If i have to be placed in a remote thick jungle with God-knows-what's ahead, YCS and Super CAK quickly comes to mind.

All hail Yvsa for bestowing on the HI community such a great knife design! Hah, i've been reading that you actually supplied a wooden model to show the kamis exactly what you wanted. That's incredible. It's a beautiful design with an incredible shape to the blade. By the looks of all the YCS handles I've seen, you must have MASSIVE mitts. I'm talking like a bunch of bananas! :D

I want to thank Yvsa, also, for this design. (Yvsa, didn't this come out before Foxy's Folly?) I read about it in the Archives. The planning, the full curve, the wooden model, the purpose behind its design and then the finished product. Like you were reading my mind Yvsa. I have to get one BUT the ones available lately are too heavy for my taste...and far heavier than the design calls for. I've put an order in for one with a traditional wooden handle (non-chiruwa and undecorated), 3/8" spine, 24oz. weight, white metal fittings and 17-18". The kamis tried in this last shipment but it came in a little over 1/4" spine and 27oz. It got caught up in the flood and although the kamis refinished the blade, the scabbard hadn't thoroughly dried so that the blade was rusted on arrival to Reno(look for a blem appearing soon). Yangdu says that Rajesh will try to have one made for me. While there is no rush, I'm waiting in anticipation that one of the kamis will be able to make it to spec so that I can experience Yvsa's true design.

moogoo, you've got to face it...you're in too deep now. Once you've started thinking about a khukuri like that, its hopeless. Start saving your money so that you can get one of Yvsa's Cherokee Specials.

Yours in HIKV

Rick
