I just recieved my 21" Kobra and 18" Sirupati. What can I say that has not been said before? Truly, no pics could do these beauties justice, I'm still a bit dumbstruck at how pretty and obviously effective these Khukri are.

To top it off, these are 'blems' or seconds that Yangdu offered to me at very reasonable prices.

I even got a tiny cute paper Khukri as a present!

Thank you very much Yangdu.

Great news, you are welcome

I can't imagine anybody being disappointed with anything they get from H.I.

Welcome Moorditch.

Welcome Moorditch:)!

Those are two fantastic khuks that you have there. The Kobras are some of my favorite khuks:thumbup:

Glad to have you aboard the forum!:)

Sure, that's how it starts, then you wake up with one under your pillow having dreamt of the Himalayas all night. Take delight at putting a spit shine on your rigs and using brasso to polish the fittings. I've also found that a Fabulustre jewelers cloth does a really nice job of keeping the blades shining after a hard day of chopping, if your so inclined. But I also like the idea of letting the blades acquire a natural patina like in Cootes pics. Guess we need another blade to practice on...

Thanks again to all for the warm welcome. My fathers family served as professional soldiers throughout SE Asia, where the "Ghurka" Gorkali soldiers have almost mythic status. Thats where I first heard the story's of the courage and strength of character of the people and of course the famous curved knife. I have no idea how to use one although I have experience with a number of edged weapons...

So I'm really looking forward to learning from these knives.

It's humourous really to be extolling their praises when I just realised that every one on this forum is already a 'true believer'! ;)

Rreat choice. another khuk addict on the way up! next find something to cut on...no not the neighbors. read the safety string.

Too right! I'm off to read that safety thread now. Don't think my neighbours are in any danger but I might accidentally lose a few digits, lols.

Didn't feel like doing another "First HI piece" thread, so I'll post here in Moor's thread if no one objects.

I got my first khukri too, earlier this week. A sort of birthday gift. 25 inch Sirupati, thought I wanted something long to be used like a machete, but still sturdy (think I should've went with a Kobra, in retrospect). I didn't really grasp the size of the thing until I had it in hand. Thought it was unwieldy at first, but once I got used to the balance, I could appreciate how well designed it is.

Big, mean knife that feels more like a sword. Very lovely too, and $150 is dirt cheap for such a large blade forged by a master like Bura and his assistants. Haven't much opportunity to use it lately, but it looks and feels reliable, like something I know will probably outlast me. Sharp as a devil, too.

Well, there's my gushing about it.

Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving, or whatever you celebrate this time of year that involves lots of eating.

No objects from me Bandersnatch! I don't know if a Kobra is all that much lighter though, guess it depends on the Kami's touch who made it... My 21" Kobra is one hefty piece of work and once it gets moving it feels like it wants to just keep on going (very cool feeling by the way :))
