Hi Folks,
Haven't been here for a little while, as I haven't had money for knives for a time, and therefore haven't needed to solicite information from you nice peoples (+ a few bastids). Anyhoo, as tax return season is approaching I'm thinking about getting another knife. It's come down to either a Chris Reeve Aviator or Tops Steel Eagle Model 107C with the saw and recurve blade. The Tops has a bit longer blade which I like and I love the recurve style. However, my question is how effective is the saw. I collect tactical/outdoor style knives and so far lack one with a decent saw back, so this interested me. The Aviator's looks like an interesting design, but the teeth on the Tops one seem too widely spaced to be effective. Does anyone have any experience with both or either of these and could you give me any input. Thanks a lot.

That's the link to the tops knife, but as I'm not very computer savvy I'm not sure if it will work the way I've posted it in. If it doesn't and somebody knows how to fix it, much obliged.

That other one actually worked, so I've added the link to the aviator as well. Thanks again for any advice.

They both look great, but the handle on the Steel Eagle looks more user friendly. It's too bad that the companies don't have beater models you place a deposit on to examine the quality.

Thom,
I agree, but in their favor I do have a Chris Reeve Project 1 and that handle is actually better than it looks. However, I've never handled any of his smaller knives and I don't know if those handles might be a little small for me. I'm a medium size guy, but I have large hands. Yes, a beater model to examine sounds like a good idea too.

I've got a smaller reeves and the handle looks a little short, kinda feels a little short, but i've not had trouble maintaining a good grip. i.e. all my fingers are still attached and the blade has not yet met the floor.
