Oh oh another world famous survivalist turns out to be a FAKE

To be honest there is no suprise to me in this. :thumbdn:

Afterall, how much of what makes the light of the day on the net, escapes the scrutiny of a requirement for evidence?

These days opinion seems to be all that's required, especially on internet forums whose revenue is based on advertising (that is dependent on traffic). :thumbdn: :thumbdn:
Kind regards
Mick

Lying for fame is not a new concept nor one that started with the interwebs. I'm curious though. If you have such a low opinion of internet forums, why do you frequent them?

G'day mete

"Speaking on Swedish radio this week, the humbled cheat explained: 'I was under pressure, mostly from myself, and I gave in to temptation.'

He added: 'Looking back, I’m surprised that I got away with it for so long, and that I managed to keep up appearances to my wife and everyone else.'
Oddly, he is not the first Norwegian to fake an acquaintance with the wild: Norwegian hunter and adventurer Kristoffer Clausen, wrote a best-selling book and became a TV star after spending a year 'in the wild'.
Later, he admitted he spent most of the time in a Swedish hotel, and wrote his blog from his car."

Absoulute classic.

And people question me & claim I'm sceptical when I require evidence that what they say is from first hand experience?

Personally, I do not believe that "ignorance is bliss". :jerkit:

Since you have asked me an honest question I'll ATTEMPT TO give you an honest answer.

But since I'm obviously confused, I hope you don't mind if I give you some options. :D

Maybe I'm more stubborn than most.? :D

Afterall, most of the experienced posters that used to post here, as well as the moderators, aren't what you would call recently regular posters. LOL

Bear in mind, afterall, this is "the wilderness & survival skills forum" & not a hiking and camping forum.

As such, is it unreasonable to expect that anyone who posts here can show that they have spent time in the wlderness?

..... Or it could be the fact that..... I don't earn an income from providing "survival training" and therefore feel the need to be popular with perspective internet clients?

......Or it could be the fact that.....I don't design commercially available knives and therefore don't feel the need to be popular with perspective iternet forum clients? .....

.....Or do you think my post on page two here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/883196-Oh-oh-another-world-famous-survivalist-turns-out-to-be-a-FAKE/page2 .....

.... may go some way to explain, why in my opinion, internet opinion without evidence isn't enough?

I guess I'm not a newbie & therfore easily impressed with the post count that seems to be a feature on internet forums. :D

Kind regards
Mick :D

As I recall, Farly Mowat was exposed for a few of his books passed off as personal experience and it turned out he was in different areas while the so called written events took place. Lets face it, if you are selling stuff, hype is good whether its stretching the truth or inventing it completely. As a salesman once told me at 3:00 am in the hotel bar in Dubai once, 'Do I ever question if I'm Right? I always know if I'm right or not...I sell more stuff, that means I'm right!'

Mostly they left out the gratuitous sex with a volleyball.

Was that ball named "Wilson"? :D

This whole deal does not surprise me in the least. Hope the money lasts him a while, because he may have a little problem getting work after this. The first thing necessary to be an "expert" is to call yourself an expert. At least half the people will believe you. Faked professional experience is another one on job applications and resumes.
