I picked this little Thiers up on the exchange and all I can say is wow. Such an elegant, simple design that fits your hand so perfectly. The Juniper scales add to the simple beauty of this knife, the fit and finish is close to perfect. The blade to backspring join is virtually invisible and the blade is razor sharp. I can see more of these on the horizon. Help feed my addiction and post pics of yours. Sorry for my always bad pics :o

Best regards

Robin

Oh man! You are killing me Robin!

Okay....how much would one of those set me back? The price of coffee for a week? :D

I have been really curious about these for a while now. Hoping to find one at a knife show before buying one blind. How is the pull on these? Are they pretty consistent? I either need to stop looking at the pics you provided or just get one. : ) thanks for sharing.

Hi Brett
The pull is different from any other knife I own, A good strong 6+ opening ,no half stop and soft in that position as the cam tang rolls over the backspring, then a very strong snap to close, if that makes sense. The blade takes up the entire length of the slot and sits very close to the backspring at the butt end. I was told not to let it snap closed but a friend was looking at it and let it snap hard and it didn't ding the blade.

Best regards

Robin

Robin, I think I will just get an Opinel No. 8. The price of a Thiers would cut into my beer funds. :D

Just got mine a few weeks ago, it's a beauty! Mine is about a 6/7, just about right. It does ding the back spring when you let it go though, not a huge deal for me but some it may be. I figure it will sharpen out over time. Other than the backspring issue it's flawless, very well put together and it's thin blade profile makes it a slicing machine.

I can see why you would get hypnotized by those. They're sleek, sharp looking knives.

Very nice!

Very nice knives! I'll have to do some investigating... Thanks for showing them.

Very Nice. I was lookig at these in France while I was there last week. My partner wanted to get me something nice from France to remember our trip and it came down to one of these or a Forge De Laguiole. We went with the Laguiole afterall mainly for its iconic status but those Thiers are great little blades.

I really like the looks of the Thiers knives. Those wood scales are gorgeous. Maybe a small bit of rubber band glued in the slot could help protect the blade edge if it slams closed?

Just a beauty with those Juniper slabs, Robin. Just a classy looking knife. Congrats on the acquisition, sir

I am not, I repeat, NOT looking at those knives!!

You cannot make me look at them,
because I will want to buy one (or two . . . or . . .) so I am not going to look!!

Well, is a peek looking? Because I might peek, but I am NOT going to look!!!

My one is a Companion and has a Norwegian Birch handle , I specially ordered the Carbon blade which makes it a little unusual .
They are very nice knives , but I don't seem to carry mine much anymore , its fantastic for food prep and slicing .
If you are looking for something a bit different then I don't think you will be disappointed .

I've "looked" to long .... With Robin's feedback (thank you for that by way) I certainly see one in my pocket down the road. There are so many great knives popping up lately.

Robin, le compact is a really fine knife. I have one in Ebony with nice extra pin work. As you noticed, the pull on opening is quite mild but shutting is difficult, as it should be. With no kick or backstop as some Laguioles have, you have to avoid snapping it shut or dents in the blade may occur. I like the Sandvik steel, sharpens up wonderfully. Fine in the hand, the next size up, le compagnon, is much much bigger but I prefer the smaller compact.

Look after your knife, I had a really beautiful stag one but it went MIA, probably left in some hotel back in September. Really miss that knife as the stag was ageing very nicely. They come with nice soft pocket slips too which is handy.

It is indeed Snakewood! I've wanted a snakewood knife for so long and then I get two in a month. I have another snakewood surprise hiding up my sleeve that should be here in a few months, can't wait for that one!

The Compacts are great, the stag keeps calling my name but 'm being torn by Barlows and Charlows and Scagels...oh my!

that snakewood is gorgeous and the watch ain't too shabby either ;)

I laid in a bit of rubberized cork so it rests down inside the knife, that way if someone that I show the knife to tries to let it snap closed, the blade will strike that and not get damaged.

and that Juniper is nice I have the Compagnon with juniper and love the smell of that wood !!!
