I can't begin to count the number of times that I have clicked into something advertising a "Mean Street" or "Lean Mean" only to find it is a Meaner or Leaner........

Wife is starting to worry about all the initial slobber ruining the keyboard...then the 10-minute "razzilegrrizzlemamacrackinfrizzleversiongrizzlehebegeberambledagnabit" commentary

Just curious--what is it about the old style MS or LMS that you like over the newer style LMS?

I know its cliche' but ....................

"If I had to explain it, you wouldnt understand"

and if we DO 'splain it...then we'd just be adding competition! :thumbdn:

Nothing to see here. Move along. :)

Definitely one of those blades you have to hold to understand - I don't own one but have gotten a chance play with them. I guess it will depend on your hand shape/size, OTE, but it fit me perfectly.

It's one of those knives that, after you grip it, a big smile starts to materialize - At least that's what happened to me!

This is something that I'm not clear on. Can anyone explain the difference between a MS LMS vs. the Meaners and Leaners?

Thanks,
Tony G

The original run were the Mean Streets and Lean Mean Streets. Some INFI, some A2. Straight handled era and abbreviated MS or LMS.

The more recent version has the EDC style handle. All INFI. Abbreviated LMRS or MRS.

Well, I don't like to broadcast, but I do have both of these. So, back to my original question--why is the old style more sought after? Is it just that they are harder to come by? I have a Leaner SE in my hand right now and it is pretty darn nice, as are all the minty old style ones I have.:D

A couple months ago, it seemed like everyone was looking for the newer Meaners and Leaners. I don't think there's more people after the Leans and Means now, it's just that those of us looking for the old ones are being pretty loud about it at the moment. :)

Thanks,

That addresses the "MR" vs. just an "M".

Also how you tell a LMS from a MS and a LMRS from a MRS?

Thanks

Ah, ok. ;) Actually, that does make a lot of sense.

Funny how sometimes the more obvious explanations are the less obvious explanations. Errrrr, you all know what I mean, right? It's INFI-speak!

Thickness.
I don't know the exact measurements, but I believe that the LMS and LMRS are 3/16" thick. The MS and MRS are .220" and thicker. Those who are more edu-ma-cated about this, please feel free to correct me.

A couple other tidbits I've noticed...there are likely exceptions.
LMS are all INFI have a slight saber grind and have the quilted slabs with brass tube fasteners.
(I think three of Skunks pictured above are LMS...he has two too many ;) )
LMRS have a saber grind (instead of full flat) with the exception of the 2007 SE and some customs.

Wow, isn't that rbmcmjr's knife on top ?

:D

I have two meaners one is the SE from Blade and one is a LE I picked up aftermarket.

From what I gather her the SE may be a Meaner as it is a full flat grind, and the LE I have may be a LMRS as it is saber and it is thiner than the SE knife. The SE is about .17 and the older LE .14.

Is that about right?

By jove, I think he's got it!

But, to add to the confusion, the Meaner SE is thinner than the standard Meaner, which is 0.22" (0.25"?)

IIRC, the SE was sold as a Leaner Meaner, which makes it one of the few LMRS with a full flat grind.

I'd agree that your LE is a Leaner. :)
