Last week a group of like mined individuals got together to do some camping and play with sharp things. There is a very active core group of us that really enjoy each other's company and love being outside.

I slept on the ground, here is my casa. Temps at night where down to 23 degrees!

I'll see if I can make it. I need to start getting out to these things, but time is the only obstacle.

Time, time, and time. :D

Great post. I love these because I can escape from the dungeon for a little while and practically smell the fresh air. Thanks.

I find it odd that some folks don't like to cold weather camping. For me it's more comfortable, no sweating, no bugs, less people around when at public grounds. It's all about wearing the right layers and having a good sleep system. I use a 15 degree bag with thermarest pad and goretex bivy. I am toasty all night long. Sleep in my long johns and wool socks. Always wear a cap on my head to retain body heat. I sleep like a baby.

Same here. It's my favorite camping. I use a Cat's meow with a poncho liner in it, a gore-tex bivy and a Big Agnes pad. Sleep in my base layer, add a fleece hat.
In the morning, you just roll over and make coffee without getting out of the bag.

I would so rather be cold then hot. You can always add more layers, you can only take so many off before your camping trip turns into something outta penthouse forum. Colder is better. Not to mention they say when hypothermia sets in you get a warm cozy feeling all over. That's the way I'd wanna go warm and cozy. Not sweating my boys off.

I also always enjoyed winter camping more than summer. I used to take my wife and son to Yosemite Valley every Feb on President's Day weekend. Cool, clean, no bugs, and not so many people. Usually just slept under the stars in Sunnyside walk in camp. We had ground sheets, Thermorests, and Cat's Meow bags. Coldest we ever camped was +5 F, which was pushing it for that bag, but we did OK. That was 15 years ago. I sure miss those days. Nothing quite like Yosemite or Lake Tahoe here in Texas.
