So, how is his F&F? Quality good for the price? I’ve never had the chance to handle one of his traditional style pieces and found one i am interested in but would like some input. Thanks!

I've got 4 Ohta slip joints that I've had for a number of years. They are all very nicely hafted in Sambar stag. His fit and finish is excellent and based on those I own I would highly recommend his work. Also, unless something has changed, his prices are more then fair.
Just too add, the largest knife in there is the 3.5" WT.
Here's a few old pictures.

I have one Ohta that I'm very proud of. The craftsmanship is outstanding. I'd like to get another in the future. I don't think you can go wrong with his knives for the cost in consideration of the quality of the build.

I have two Ohta folders. The friction folder is a little more modern and I think they're a great deal. He mostly makes them with modern scale materials now, but I think this version with the overlay of burl looks better. Really nice, light, and well built. Better than any production folder I've had at that price point.

This traditional wharncliff is one of the nicest custom knives I've owned, and that's saying a lot. It was my favorite carry for a while, and I still bring it out for special occasions. fit and finish to rival anyone. And I know several makers who'd like to know where he gets his stag.

Great build quality, very reasonably priced, extremely nice stag, and a solid guy to deal with. Delivery times have been very good in the past.

Those are also quite lovely

I was gifted one of the Friction Folders a couple of Christmases ago, I forget what the wood is. I haven't really carried it a great deal though.

I like that stag, kam.

I think I’m going to pass on the one I was thinking about. Short story long... I thought I may not get my ryu for awhile but just found it might be by end of year. So I’m gonna hang onto my money for now. But I have decided that I will probably get Mr. Ohta to make me a stockman. Maybe next year sometime. Thanks for the input All!

Thanks. The stag sold me. Several years ago, before slipjoints experienced their rebirth in popularity, I lucked onto this knife while perusing a well-known blade vendor. I was mesmerized, it was lust at first sight. I dithered for a couple of months though, as it would have been the most I had ever spent for a knife. Lucky for me no one else pulled the trigger. I doubt that would happen again, too many folks to compete with now.

He gets some mighty fine Ironwood too ;)

I don’t own one, but thanks for all the photos! I really can’t pick among them. Didn’t he do a locking whittler(1 blade of 2 or 3)? His tab flippers are very traditional in the correct handle materials. Don’t quite know where to draw the line on them, cf I suppose:rolleyes::D. The wood handled ones such as Jack Black Jack Black has are very reasonably priced. And it’s a maple handle Jack:). Sharp D2-what’s not to love?
Thanks, Neal

As far as I know the only Whittler he has done is mine...I asked about a lockback whittler when commissioning mine and he said he doesn't do lockbacks.

If you like Stag then he's the one to go for....

F&F exceptional and uncompromising. He delivers WHEN he says he's going to, you can watch W.I.P. on your knife on his site (well you could when mine was made) Delivery by Japan Post is extremely fast. A gentleman knife-maker.

Thanks, Will
