oil beading up on new mora knife`s

I know that some people around here just want you to go out and whack stuff with your knives but I love understanding and talking about the nerdier aspects of knife use/design. It makes the whacking even more fun, imho.

I'm giddy that I learned the word "adsorption" today. It totally makes this silly thread worthwhile.

Thanks for all the replys, I love all the talk about absorption, I like tech stuff and i always read instruction manuals to make sure i know how everything work's, And about doing a forced patina, have you read about forcing a patina by using very strong instant coffee.

John.

Coffee is quite acidic so it makes sense it'd leave behind a nice patina, anything that is acidic will discolor carbon steel faster than plain old water, hence why many folks like mustard, vinegar, or citrus fruit when they are trying to force a patina.

There's nothing like hot apple cider. Clean the blade of any oil and give her a hot soak.
But you can use, citrus, mustard, steak sauce...

I was just thinking if you wanted to test different methods of doing patina or anti-rust protection, Just buy a pack of stanley knife blades, you can buy a pack of 10 in £1 shops and they are pure carbon steel and rust really easy.

John

It`s a waste of money buying knives in the UK as the laws are so strict, They all become shelf queens, You would most likely get arrested for carring the knife below.

John. :(

;) Yeah, whacking is great fun until you can't see to do it nomore . This tread is much less silly than many others . Science and knowledge are valuable , even when it hurts my brain .
