Oil Quenching A2?

Thank you Jack, Larrin, Mete, and Scott. You guys are the best!
Now you're gonna spank me for this....I forged some A2 today. (I confess.)
I also went out to K-Mart and bought a toaster oven for the tempering. Good thing I got two oven thermometers; I set the darn thing on 450 degrees, (the max), and I'm barely getting 400 out of it! I hope that it's hot enough to temper the A2. I know....I should just save up and buy a real HT oven. (no bucks :grumpy:)
I appreciate all you guys' help; I know I'm doing this all wrong.
...Maybe I can still salvage the blade that I'm working on.

Just so you know, I've seen on some of those toaster ovens that they will get up to over 500, they just have to sit there long enough. It will hold heat a little better with a couple blades in it. The moral here is don' t just set it at 450 and think it won't go over until you've tried it for an hour or better.

Thanks, Bro'! Yeah just to see what the POS will do, I set it on "broil" and it got up to 460, then down to 410, before it kicked on again. When I set it back to "oven", on max, it now stayed between 410 and 420. I guess I should have known better, right? K-Mart special....ya get what ya pay for!
It looks like maybe Santa is going to have to come real early this year, so I can get a real HT oven! :)

Troop, glad to help. A toaster oven will work fine, you just need to monitor it with a thermometer.
Scott

No problem, that temperature swing will not be so wide with 3 or 4 knives in the oven. Kind of like putting a brick in the regular oven.
