Oil the joints!

Ok I got a presumably dumb question about oiling.

i keep seeing folks say things about if you want to use your edc for food prep you should oil it with mineral oil.
so i went out to the store to check out some mineral oil and i found it. Unless I am getting this mixed up with another product called mineral oil, the container says it is a laxative for "irregularity"

so, is this the product people use (the amounts involved are so small that its safe?) or did i get mixed up entirely?

thanks

Yep, same stuff. You should only be using a tiny bit to coat your blade. I use an old contact lens eye dropper and some cloth to apply the oil. A single drop is easily enough to coat both blades of a GEC furtaker trapper. Larger amounts, like a tbsp, is the recommended amount for the laxative effect.

Christian,
Nice knives :) I personally love taking out the knives, giving them a oil, I find sharpening not the fun part-as I arent that good at it yet..so I just dont sharpen my nice knives.

Duncan, I was like you for a long time; sharpening was painful, and my results were mixed. But I decided I had to learn, or get a different life:eek: - so I learned.

The most important thing I learned, was to use a magnifier, and I use a 7X illuminated glass to see how I'm doing. When the edge no longer reflects light, it is getting quite sharp!

I've used Tough Glide on all my knives for quite some, even those I use with food. Doesn't seem to have had any ill effects on me.

Well... apart from this second head I'm growing ....

:)

That Imperial Cattleman is just sweet! If like me you use your slip joints for food prep(apples etc. especially) you dern well better oil the joints because the blades will get lazy on you!
