Hey there. I'm new to these forums and I have learned alot so far reading them. I'm wondering what the best type of oil to use for oiling my knives? Especially carbon V blades. Thanks.

I'm sure this thread will be moved to the correct forum in no time but... I use a beretta gun oil that works great for lubing and prevent corrosion. Militec is not just oil but known as a good solution too.

Some of it depends on your application. For example, if you are going to use a knife for food prep, you don't want something that can make you sick. If not, a shot of REMOIL or something like that is as good as anything.

I use mineral oil on most everything because (1) its cheap (2) it works pretty good on everything (3) doesn't get rancid like vegetable oil (4) doesn't smell.

But a lot of other oils work "better" because they don't attract as much dust, or are longer lasting or harder wearing. I would imagine that mineral oil might be a bit thick and sticky for a folder. There will be guys that come along soon enough to give you more specific advice.

In their advertising literature Ballistol claims to be a good lubricant and protectant for pocket knives. They claim it does not harden and will protect against rust for years. However some individuals claim this to be a sham, while others live by the stuff. I have never used it. One major complaint is an awkward smell.

I used some miltech lubricant to lubricate the joints on my EDC knife.

Also, AG Russell markets a lubricant specifically for knives, though it tends to be expensive.

Wow, thanks for all the info. I somehow missed the Ultimate lubricant thread, but I have a whole lot of info on lube now. Thanks again :)
