I did a forging demo at the community forge this morning and was explaining the properties of 5160 steel when a gentleman told me that it is also caller OJDPS steel. "Old John Deere Power Shaft. The shaft in the power take off of a John Deere is made from 5160 so it has to be good steel." How can anyone argue with that!
In my demonstration I forged a blank, had a blank completed to heat treating and this knife to show the finished product. Here it is for sale.
Forged 1/4 inch 5160
Flat grind
Machine finished to 400 grit
White oak handle stabilized in my shop
Overall length: 7 1/2 inches
Blade: 3 3/4 inches
$90 ----SOLD----delivered to the US or Canada. My PayPal account is gldrewknives@yahoo.com checks with time to clear and USPS money orders also accepted.
