I went from hb 1x30 to a 2x42 1hp craftsman. Now i got a steal of a deal on a 2x72 welded no weld grinder with. 8in wheel, flat platten and small wheel. Ty mr kidwell for a great deal. Hollow grinds here i come. ? Is there any tips from going to the hollow grinds all i have done is flat.

What belt gives the best grind lines. On my. Craftsman with the cheap best value ceramic belts i have its hard ti get good lines. Seems when i hit the a65 gator belts i flattens the grinds out nice but takes a while because the grinds seem to be cconvexed from the rougher grits.

The grinder has pullys for vs. Never had that luxury either.

Any and all tips are welcome.

ty and If there is a video of that sweeping grind you do I would love to see it..
I have read the tips on your site a few times now and pick up something every time. the thing that has helped me the most so far was the come to the belt with a loose grip.
I have to order some jflex belts. i think that would help get my plunges looking better.

im going to be robbing junk steel off everything i can to practice that sweeping grind.

Congrats on the new grinder man!

Show pics of it once you get it set up.

Eric, from the little I know about him, is a great guy. Very generous too! :)

ty and will post some pics for sure. thinking of painting it Ferrari red, but actually it will probably just get the hell used out of it as is lol.

Perhaps I will do a video of swept grinding soon. Seems like a fair amount of people go there, and that's the second request for video I've gotten this week. Keep checking back.

Let me echo strigamort in congratulating you on your new machine!

Thanks for the compliments gentlemen ;).
James, I hope the grinder serves you well.

Anthony, your "gift" will ship this week.
I've been swamped!

A new grinder is a mixed blessing, Yes, the world will open up for you now. But my advice is to go ahead and set aside about $300 for a bunch of belts. Because the last thing you want is to get frustrated with your new grinder because you are too cheap to put fresh belts on it when a used belt is worn down. I've been there. I was just trying to remove mill scale from a small piece of CPM S30V. I kid you not, I stood in front of the grinder for 30 minutes making pass after pass on this tiny 1 inch square piece of steel, and the scale would NOT come off. I thought the belt was fine. Eventually, I tried another used belt (coarser) with the same results. After a while it dawned on me to try a fresh belt. 15 seconds later the work was done. I kicked myself for days after that. I'm still trying to regrow nails to cover the area accidentally burned/sanded off.

So stock up on belts now. Not just a few.

Make that three! :D:thumbup:

Maybe you could round up a go pro or similar to clip mount on a cap on your head so you can include showing point of view of your process too?

Lots of them, I hope. Enjoy the toy!
ty. I only got about 12 total for the new toy. but I still got several for my 2x42. I plan to use it for hogging and handle work. its the 1hp model so you can lean on it hard and not stall it at all.

The world has changed drastically belt wise since I've started grinding.
Without all the new fangled belts I still do fine with 60 grit zirc and, then going
to 220 J Flex, same as loveless suggested 37 years ago. I do use some ceramics
and a few different belts now and then but not many. Use them like they're free.
Ken.
