I keep seeing threads about try Emerson, and so on, and I think I'm gonna bite the bullet... I like the looks of the horseman/cqc8, but what size? Mini, regular, super? Typically I like larger blades, but I've never had an Emerson, and they obviously get more expensive as you go up, so I don't know if I want to shell out the money for the large one, but I don't want to not like it just because of the size and not give Emerson its chance... What suggestions do you have? Thanks!

I've had the standard model CQC-8 and found the handle just a bit too small. I tend to gravitate to the super-sized models, they fit my hand much better. If you like larger blades the Super CQC-8 should be perfect.

The CQC-8 is a huge knife to me (medium sized hands), so I don't know if the Super is necessary.

The cqc-8 by itself is already a fairly large knife, If it were me I'd go with that.

I have medium to large hands. A medium glove is to tight in the palm, but finger length is fine. A large glove fits the palm, but can be to long in the fingers. I recently got a Horseman, and feel that it fits my hand fine. So I think it would just be a matter of preference, and how and where you use your knife. Occasionally people give me the look even when I'm using smaller knives. So I will carry the Horseman at work. But I would love a larger knife for other times.

I have medium/9 sized hands. I have had both the CQC-8 and the Horseman. The CQC-8 is a great size. I felt that the Horseman handle was a little skinny if you will in it's overall girth though the overall length was good. The CQC-8 has a lengthy handle which would be a great fit for medium and larger hands. I plan on having a CQC-8 again but not sure about the Horseman.

I have medium hands and I carry both a horseman and a Cqc-8. The horseman is a little skinny but I still find it useful the 8 is perfect.

Start in the middle.

This is great advise.

Start with the "standard" size, for me at least this fits my hands best. The larger and smaller ones have a place, but I needed to try (and own) the mini and super to learn this.

For me personally I work in an office setting and will often drop down to the mini version as they seem a bit more friendly. If I wasn't concerned about office politics? Well on those days I carry whatever I feel like (most frequently a BT Commander).

I have medium-small hands I guess, wearing a size 7.5 glove. I find the Horseman to fit perfectly in my hand.

The Mini sized Emersons are more like an average sized knife.
What knives do you have or are familiar with that you feel are a good size for you?

Get a vindicator, you won't be disappointed. It wasn't even n my radar and the other 2 models I actually "wanted" were on back order so I said what the hey and took the vindi, I acquired the other 2 shortly after and the vindicator is the one I love.

Benchwarmer's right. Emerson's minis are not so "mini." For instance, my mini-CQC15 has as much handle space as a Para 2 without using the choil on the Spyderco... and the handle is thicker than the Para 2. And a mini-Commander handle is slightly longer than the mini-15. Best to find a well-known knife that's a size you like and let us point you to an Emerson that's real close.

I love my zt 560, that fits my hand very well, the CRKT otsnashi no Ken also fits my hand well, so larger knives do

I'd follow OM's advice, then, and start in the middle of the size range. That'd be the full-sized Emerson's. The thing about the ZT is that you're going to have an open "butt end" of the handle that folks with larger hands can use to get a good grip. A lot of Emersons will have a fitted butt end that locks your hand in place just like the finger guard does for the front of the handle. Sometimes, you just have to handle one or two Emersons before you get the size thing figured out.

I own a "7", got some extra cash for Christmas, and may or another "7", or Commander. Being a South Paw those are my choices.

If I was right hasnded, I woild order a MINI 15, because I see it as being the best of many worlds, and it feels good in my hands.
