Ok fess up. What cool knives ya get?

Nice knives from the Covers over there in MO. Top notch stuff for sure. Ray just amazes me. Some of the nicest fit and finished knives I've ever handled or seen have been by his hands.

The wife treated me to a pair: An Emerson CQC-10 for work, and a Mineral Mountain BD just because I thought it looked pretty cool.

The Emerson has been pretty sweet so far. I haven't cut anything with the BD yet, it's awful perty.

Uncle Chris gave me a Leu Custom special-order knife. It's like a palm-loaded knife with a cord wrapped handle. Awesome knife but it's overkill for me personally. But what a nice gift. I hope 08 is great!

Here are a few links to it for ya AngleIron.

For you guys reading this. This was a prototype I made and submitted to Sal Glesser at Spyderco some time ago. And yes I'm licensed to use the Spydrerco opening hole. It didn't fly and he mailed it back to me which surprised me because I figured all sumissions became their property but since I had it back I had Bob Dozier harden it for me and used it for a bit. Its a good functional user for sure. Just a bit fugly ugly. I've had it in the safe for years. Its lacking a lot of finish obviously but I kind of warned AI about that. Anyway, its my pleasure and technically I didn't give it to him I guess. I earned 1 dollar on this one. :D

str....that is a cool looking knife....looks like it is ready to do some work.....liscensed to use the hole????.......you can have a patent on a hole.....was that serious......anyway i got a watanabe garasuki in white steel with a keyaki octagonal handle......translated in english-big knife for chicken.......ryan

Hi Ryan. Spyderco registered the opening hole as their trademark so its not a patent thing. I paid and licensed to do the opening hole and I am above board on it was all was saying. Some folks see an opening hole in a custom folder and they immediately start this talk about how the maker is stealing intellectual property. I was just covering that base before it was asked. I'm sure most of my customers and folks that know me would never think this because they know I'd never do something like that but that statement was not directed at them.

In answer to your question though, yeah, I'm serious. I'm licensed by Spyderco to use their hole on my custom folders if I want to up to a certain number per year. All last year I made two folders total with opening holes in the blade instead of a thumb stud though so its not like I do it a lot.

thanks for the info str.....very interesting.....i forgot....i actually owe myself a christmas present....i was probably gonna get a new kershaw folder but i can't decide which one....it has to be under 100 bucks......i'll keep thinking about it.....the external toggle that str got has me thinking about that one...ryan

The ET is a cool knife. I love the blade but it does bite. I've been cut a few times with it at this point playing with it. Its still pretty neat though but it does require a learning curve to get used to it. I've bought four of them and out of all of them my favorite is the Urban Camo model.
