I'd say lose the Minimag and get a better flashlight. My favorite is the Peak Led Solutions Mckinley Series with 7 snow LEDs. It's available in either brass or aluminum, and the high power version is amazingly bright for its size. Peak

For real! Loose the MiniMag unless you plan to bring it into the 21st century by fitting it with an LED module. The only advantage the MiniMag has is the inexpensive price, but their weak incandescent bulbs are a thing of the past. Peak LED Solutions has some very nice small flashlights, but if you want a nice white more powerful beam, go Luxeon. Check out the Inova T1 which is smaller than a MiniMag and runs on 1 CR123 cell, but packs a nice punch. The Inova T2 is bigger (about the size of a standard MiniMag) and runs on 2 CR123 cells. Here's a LINK with reviews on these lights.

I'd stick a Leatherman Micra in there too, and maybe a Swiss Card. Take up very little room and, between them, have a very useful variety of small tools.

great suggestions, guys....keep 'em coming!

Have you got a pocket that will hold your sunglasses? Every time i take mine off, like when I go inside a shop or something, I never seem to have a free pocket to put them in.

Daniel, how about a Sparklite? It's more of a survival item, but hey, you never know when something like it will come in handy.

Something like this:

I wear glasses....but just today started new contacts...so maybe I'll dig out the sunglasses afterall....excellent reminder!

I like the lil' firestarter! How long do they last?

The lighter is designed to spark well over 1000 times according to the instruction manual. The box contains 8 pieces of waterproof tinder as well.

Small camera? Compass? Some way of starting fire is a must. Yeah, a better flashlight (maybe a small one (Dorcy AA) and a bigger one Streamlight Scorpion or Twintask). I like to have a 6' tape measure on me too.

Good luck, post pics when ya get 'er done!

a 100$ bill, 3 50s and a couple 20s. Probably the most useful survival gear around.

Yes....agreed....hence the billfold. :p

I don't want this to turn into a 72 hour kit....but I would like to know what other neat gadget ideas you all got bouncin' around up there....

Nobody's mentioned a mini voice-recorder....I need one of those bad....

= Wife: Pick up eggs, milk, cheese, bread, biscuits, lettuce, onions, mac-n-cheese, pickles, jelly, a candy bar, aspirin, socks, and an umbrella at the store and go to the bank.
= Me (fifteen minutes later on the cell phone after having picked up a $20 bill at the ATM): Now, what kind of candy bar you want me to buy with this?

:footinmou

Maybe a Leatherman and a Bic lighter. You never know when either will come in handy. For me (I love spicy food and garlic) maybe an antacid and some type of breath mint.

If it was mine it would have to be a BIG drug pouch. After all I'm on a first name with my pharmacist and she is cute!!!

When you start off with a day planner and a cell phone, it's fairly obvious that this pouch isn't intended for wilderness survival.

My urban survival kit: HK P7, Leatherman PST, BM AFCK, Cell phone, ATM/Visa Card, and a $100 bill. These tools will get you out of most any urban "survival" situation.

A little flashlight can be handy too, but there's no need to turn night into day.

Since you started to wear contacts, I would suggest a small bottle of wetting solution for your eyes.

Pocket change for parking meters.

Small first aid kit.

Extra battery for the light

Pen and sharpie permanent marker

Lens rewetting drops! Trust me! you can never have enough of these little bottles. I can them in every bag and everywhere I go.

Not so much a gadget, but a small FAK.

Often you can find those little promotional bandaid dispensors that have maybe 5 cheapos in it, and have a hinged end on them.

I carry 3 Biersdorf Coverlets, a #10 and #11 scalpel, 1 butterfly, and 2 packets of triple antibiotic in them.

Just handy to have.

I carry an Urban kit as well and here are it's contents:

Leatherman WAVE
Leatherman Squirt S2 (scissors model)
Surefire E2e
Graham Brothers EDC (Wharncliffe blade)
Moleskine note book
2 Sharpies
Extra pen or 2
SureFire SPARES carrier
Leatherman tool adapter
First aid kit (meds, bandaids, tweezers, lighter, kids meds, etc)
First Aid bandage spray (like a plastic sheet of sterile bandage - waterproof, etc)
Roll of clear duct tape (found it at the Home Depot - small roll)
Antibacterial gel
Wet wipes (remember - I have little kids)
Extra lip stuff
Extra Halls Fruit Breezers

I think that is about it...ought to be enough. I know that is probably more than could fit in your sized bag, but it might give you some ideas. I also throw in there my iPod mini and PDA when they are not on my person.

Good luck -
David
