Ok, I listened to my wife and got the BK 32! I haven't been able to cut anything with it yet, although there was this oak tree that annoyed me on the way home, but I am going to remedy that in the next few days. I had been leaning towards the 10, but she, um, talked me into the 32...I mean, it's got green handles. No, really, that was the argument that won.
Anyways, anyone else out there have a 32? Any thing different I should be aware of? This is my first real knife in over 30 years...kind of excited. Of course I do hope not to cut myself during the "breaking in period" as I don't heal near as fast as I used to do.
Suggestions, thoughts, advice are all appreciated.

You'll shoot yer eye out kid!

Congrats! Great choice for a first Becker! That 1/4" steel is a force to be reckoned with...beat the snot out of it. Oil the edge occasionally... That's about it...

Oh yeah...you absolutely MUST post pics...and by all means...feed it after midnight!

Did you show her the Pink handles?

Get the 10 with Pink scales (or the whole set) from Dex @ CoyleOutdoors and tell her it's for her very own Becker!

Travis, while we there she picked out a Esee Laser Strike in beige. I wasn't aware that color coordination could be a primary concern with knives. Learn something new everyday.
I have a large limb that fell in the last storm that I haven't disposed of yet...subconsciously saved it, maybe. There is a part of it that screams for hand dismemberment. Ummm, it screams to be taken apart by hand...yeah, that's the ticket. I'll have her snap a picture or two. I am sure the neighbors will appreciate it. :)
I think I'll start looking again after I get comfortable with this one, spazcsmc. Need to get out in the woods first and eat a bug or something.

Color coordination is everything. Guyon has been a leader in this field for years. Remember, it's not what you know, it's how you look.

Ok, going to try to post some "static" shots.

Took me a minute or 3 to get the images right, but it's all good.

Thank you.......I do hope your 32 will bring you a faithful Companion........ Try using a baton to experiment with dismembering that branch...... It can be quite efficient........ I do hope you enjoy your new partnership....... The denizens of this place love pics...... Come back often........

Bk2 is a great choice. A beast of a knife

Welcome to your gateway Becker!

The 2 is how many of us found our way here (myself included).

Stick around for a while! we all love pictures!

gotta get me some of that clear stuff soon

haven't seen anything new in a while

boats you know. boats.

Remember, without pics - it never happened ... and if I didn't get it Certified, I never got it.

I will remember that. When I was AD it was, "If you didn't document it, it didn't happen." It's just a natural extension.

ps. Wife loves those handles, Kurt. Gee, thanks. ;)

Oh, one other thing I haven't done, um, in a few decades, is sharpen a blade. I figured that there has to be some better sharpeners out there, I can figure that out hopefully, but y'all think it would be a good idea to hit some pawn shops or flea markets for some "cheap" knives to practice on before messing up my new blade?

Thanks,
GT

Depends on your method of sharpening!

If you go with stones, you won't really remove a significant amount of material even if you mess up the edge (especially on a BK2). Just go slow and keep your angles consistent. I used my BK2 (and 15) to practice on  Check out this video:

If you are going the stones route, I'd recommend watching #1 as well.

Instead of stones you could go diamond sharpeners for a little more money. They get the job done faster and remove material quicker. Again, just go slow and you'll be fine.

Sandpaper works, but its a consumable. You'll be spending more money in the long run (depending on how often you sharpen your knives)

There are numerous sharpeners out there that everybody will recommend. I've heard good things about the KME, WorkSharp (Ken Onion Edition), and Edge Pro systems. Some of them come with a pretty hefty price tag, but they all give amazing results.

Pick your system, do your research on use, and go slow. Spend the money from your practice knife on the sharpener. If you are really that worried about it, grab a butter knife from the kitchen (or cheap paring knife) and go from there ;)
