I have the RSK. I occasionally get a "call" from a Manix. I've never even HELD a Manix.

I dunno if I could give up the Axis lock.

Both have S30V
Manix has liners.
RSK has none, but it doesn't seem fragile AT ALL!
I...think....the Manix is heavier. (?)
I don't know which is thinner.

Now...what would be GREAT (but may not exist) is if we got some input from someone who owns BOTH and which they have settled on as "THE" one.

:confused::confused:

I own a Manix, and have given Griptillians as presents, so I know them well and have handled and used them both. I don't have experience with a Ritter, so I can only comment on the handles:

The Manix handles are thinner, but much wider, and it is heavier. That Manix feels more heavy duty and solid and is heavier.

I prefer the ergonomics of the Manix ten-fold over a Grip. The lock on the Manix is something in itself to experience. It's more solid and impressive than regular lock backs.

If you're thinking of a Manix, you'd better do it soon.

It's been discontinued.

If I had to choose between a Manix and a Ritter, there's no way I could give up the Manix. Now that I think about it, that's what I did. I kept my Manix and got rid of the Ritter Grip. Both are excellent knives though. But the ergos on the Manix (I prefer the Mini Manix of the full size) is hard to compete with for most knives.

Own a Manix, traded my grip. No competition IMO unless you really need to shed the extra size and weight of the Manix for a more compact full size EDC folder.

I own both, and I have to give the nod to the Manix overall.....mini manix is a little more people friendly than its big brother so that is the one I tend to carry.

Ritter for me. RSK does have partial nested liners. About 3/4 length of the handle.

Too much included angle between the handle and the blade on the manix. The Axis kicks butt over the operation of lockback. Granted, the Manix Lockback is excellent, but the Axis is much nicer TO USE and just as secure. With winter here, the Axis rocks with gloves. The opening hole of the Manix works pretty well with gloves but the lockback doesn't close up as nicely with winter gloves.

All lockbacks are finicky in lockup with pocket lint. I've had a few lockbacks fail on me due to lint. Just needs cleaning, but it's an annoyance. The Axis has not exhibited this characteristic in my experience.

The Ritter is more versatile in different grips. This does depend on individual hands to a good degree, but the Ritter tends to be more accomodating of hand variation.

The Manix tempted me many times, but every time I examined it closely for what I like in a knife, I never added it to my cart for purchase.

You'll note I don't have any real strong dings against the Manix. It's a good knife and a brute. But it's not the kind of knife that happens to work well for me.

I have both, but don't think they are meant to be comparable. The RSK is a light, easy to open pocket knife with a nice blade design. I had trouble with the RSK S30V, but I upgraded to the M2 and like this knife a lot. It has a flat sabre grind, a wonderful axis lock and is quite strong, although the plastic handle is disconcerting.

The Manix is a whole nother animal. It has a big, fully flat grind blade that is also nicely designed. It's a little longer and a little wider and the blade is a little thicker, but all these littles add up to a lot. The Manix is a big knife that takes up a lot of pocket space. I think of it as a bridge between pocket folders and fixed blades. If you need a stronger folder than the Manix, you need a fixed blade. The lockback is not as nice to use as the axis, but it is extremely strong.

If you just need a handy pocket knife, get the RSK. If you need a powerful folder for hard use, get the Manix.

The (14 mm) Spyder-hole on the Manix line is AWESOME. My thumb just sorta "falls" onto the hole. Even with my left (weak) hand, it opens incredibly easily. I know my grandfather loves it, because he has a bit of arthritis in his hands, and the Manixis MUCH better then many other knives for him.

You won't miss the Axis lock as much as you think, the lock on the Manix is great. Smooth, strong, and easy to use with gloves on.

I've owned both but lost my ritter grip. The manix gets my vote. But if the ritter handle was G10 I'd change my vote.

I prefer the blade on the ritter, but the handle on th manix. Overall the manix is a better outdoor package, but the ritter is a better EDC package.

Good point Jason:thumbup:. (though I like the Manix's blade better)

I have both and I prefer the Ritter. The Manix lock has once or twice been activated by the heel of my palm and the blade started to close. No way this could happen with the Ritter.
The Manix is quite a bit larger and heavier so they are not really an equal comparison.
Manix discontinued? I was told that by a Spyderco employee at the Outdoor Retailer trade show last fall and when I posted it here on BFs folks kind of laughed.

I have had the Griptilian and the Manix. I sold the Griptilian and bought 3 more Manixes. IMHO the Manix is a better deal and a nicer knife overall. It feels built tougher due to the full skeletonized liners and has a more preferable grind (full flat) for cutting utility.

Both ARE excellent knives, but with that said, I LOVE the Ritter Grips!!

The Ritter has a very high flat grind so the cutting is very similar.

I would go with the Manix. Really I would choose the Mini Manix because I think the size is better for edc.

Also being that the Manix is discontinued, I would get it now. Just ordered a Mini Manix last week.

Don't give up the AXIS on your RSK... just get a Manix to have for those days when the "urge" gets too strong to resist. I have 8 Grips and mini-Grips and a mini-Manix. The RSKs have my favorite blade shape. I really love a wide drop point for the kinds of cutting I do. They are S30V and a flat saber grind. That's as good as it gets for me.

The Manix family is as strong and solid as anything I've seen in a folder in 50 years of looking. My mini-Manix is the one that goes to the woods with me when we're hiking or camping. I don't mind the weight because I wear it on my belt. It goes well with the Caly 3 in my pocket.

If I'm driving a long way and visiting around in a town, I'll take the RSK because it's lighter and more comfortable when I'm sitting and driving or walking downtown. It can go on my belt or IWB.

For me this is NOT a hard choice. The Manix is IMO, one of the best designed folders to come out in years. I do have both and love both. Any Benchmade you decide on will be top notch. The Manix for me however is just one of those must have knives.
