Not really sure why, but I can't sharpen an axe or hawk to save my life. I have tried the file, a round stone, regular stone, so what do I do? Give up and send to someone to sharpen, or is there a magic trick that I am not aware of?
Thanks and take care.

Do all the reprofiling with a file and be 100% sure to RAISE A BUR! That's the easiest way to know that you have the two sides of the blade forming a nice edge and have zero flat spots. Only then should you move onto a stone to eliminate the burr and establish a keen edge. After that, strop the thing on a leather belt if you really want it to get razor sharp.

Here's a post of mine that you might find helpful - I was restoring a 3.5lb SB Keen Kutter and sort of explained my methods for sharpening:

Very nice, that is what I am talking about. I guess I just need to practice more LOL. I can do a knife edge pretty well, but the hawk/axe thing has me stumped. Thanks for the advice.

I think Killa has probably hit on your problem, not going far enough with each step. therefore your progress slows to a crawl
