OK! I have to ask!

Oh, yeah! I've had mine a week. The blade feels light and fast, the balance is excellent - if you aren't looking for a chopper. The sheath fits well, holds securely and doesn't let the knife wiggle or rattle. Here are a few pics from the first impression I posted on the factory forum last week.

So, other than the handle shape/material and the sheath retention system, how big a difference would you say there is between Temperance I and II?

I have a Temperance I and--while I like LOOK of the T-II better--my big hands really dig the beefier handle of the T-I.

Can't believe you held out that long before posting here about the Temperance II, thanks Pics look great, do you have any with the Temperance II next to a Millie for size comparison.

Thanks,
RickJ

The differences are both subtle and noticeable. The bead blasted brown linen Micarta gives excellent grip without shredding your hand. The handle is a bit slimmer, but still hand-filling. I'm glad to see the choil got deleted, and the extra bit of edge length is always welcome (to me at least).

I can shoot some comparison pix with a Military in the morning if the sun comes out. In the meantime, here are a few more from the earlier shoot.

Looks like you have big hands, Does the handle on the Temperance II seem short to you or does it have about the same palm area as the Military? And thanks for the extra Pics comparing the Temperance II to the Military and the other fixed Blade.

RickJ

My hands are pretty big. I generally buy size XL gloves, need a size 13 1/2 ring to fit my right ring finger (the largest size Wal Mart stocks in men's rings just fits my pinkie) and at full stretch my hands span right at ten inches - just over the open length of the Military. I've gotten so used to needing to use the finger choils to get a good grip that the Temp II feels a bit odd without one. Unlike the Barong, my fingers do not feel crowded on the Temperance II as long as I'm not wearing heavy gloves. The thickness of the handle is just right for me. While it isn't as roomy as the Military (which I can still use even with heavy gloves), I find it quite comfortable in all grips.

I think it is safe to say your hands are bigger than mine, so the Temperance II should not be an issue for me. It will be my next Spyderco Purchase. Thanks for all the info and Pics you posted.

dang yablanowitz.. you got some dirty fingernails :)

That is an awesome looking knife. I dont think i'll ever get one due to the price though. The blade shape looks like what an enlarged Tenacious fixed blade would look like.

thanks for the comparison. the first temperance was a really a great trail knife already.

would love to pick one up a T2 too...but no in this economy :(

Yes, I had just got home from spending the day at one of our apartment complexes mowing, edging sidewalks, trimming, pulling up baby elm trees and working on mowers, trimmers and edgers. Getting dirty at work is nothing new to me.

I think it is a matter of perspective. I know for a fact that this knife will outlast $200 worth of single malt whisky. Shucks, it'll outlast $200 worth of Bud Light. Even if I still smoked, it would outlast $200 worth of cigarettes. I can get along without those things to get something that will last a lifetime.

This knife if taken care of and used for its intented purpose will last a lifetime, I tell my Wife that all the time when a new knife comes in the mail, honey my stuff will last a lifetime.

Yab! What have you used the Temperance II for? Any kid of work around the house or at your Job?

RickJ

Not much yet. My boss thinks fixed blade knives violate the "no weapons" policy for government buildings, so I can't take it to work. I only get away with carrying my Mules because they fit in the ruler pocket of my carpenter jeans, making them "pocket knives". ;)

looks much thicker than I thought it would, I like that. yes it not like Busse Fat but it looks pretty thick.

i agree :D

however, i know that i'll get my $200's-worth out of said whiskey...not so sure about the T2, especially seeing as i already have a T1 ( which itself will last a lifetime ;) )

Frankly, I don't have any real use for it either, but at least I'll still have something to show for my money a year from now. Can't say the same for that whisky. ;)
