I know I posted that I wouldn’t be buying any more blades for at least another month, but then 1066vik had to go tempt me with the Ek5.:D

I’ll have it by early next week.

I’ve only seen good reviews. Do any of you have any experience with it?

Thanks,
G

Just got home. It feels nice. Here’s a quick pic near my 1213...

Yesterday was a veeeerrrrry long work day and I only handled the 45 for about ten minutes, but here’s my initial impression.

It’s certainly sleek. It’s long and thin, quite different than my other recent acquisitions. Still, it has a ferocious vibe. Almost a deadly elegance.

Thank You for comparison shot, very helpful.
Blade looks superb, but i am worry about the handle, how comfy it is?
Too thin/angular, sharp edges?
Thank You.

The handle is thin and hard but not sharp. It’s comfortable.

Here’s some more pics...

the EK handles are more comfortable in hand than they look.
they also fit well when you're wearing gloves, which is not always true of more hand-filling grips on other knives.
that said, I wouldn't look forward to carving out a deep spoon with one -- but would have no worries about carving tent stakes or L7 trap triggers.

GeofS GeofS What do you think of the EK? Have you had any time with it yet? I'll be up in Olean in July and was hoping the lil KABAR store has one in stock for me to handle.

Truthfully, I think I like it better than the 1213. The more substantial tang is a big part of that.

Any problem with guard rattle? One of those youtube review guys (gideons tactical?)went through two both had loose guards. I loved the old version from back in the day, been on the fence about buying one of these.

I’ve seen that review. I haven’t beaten on mine, so I cannot answer honestly. Sorry.

after some use, mine did have a bit of play at the guard, no rattle but could be moved. Grabbed a piece of floss and wound it inside the gap, solved. Haven't used it much so don't know if a more permanent fix will be needed. It does feel great in the hand, but maybe the scales could be done in a stouter material.

the scales are grivory - I doubt it gets any stouter than that.
I like this one better than my previous one karmically, but kind of miss the brass guard.

I can't speak for the Kabar ones but the Effingham ones were superb slicers. For a combat Bowie, it was well designed and balanced.

a brass guard on this one would look very handsome
