Real outdoorsmen know the knife is only a tiny part of the equation. A damn nice sheath is the thing. Which is exactly the reason only four Becker knives were sold last year.

Real men don't need sheaths. You wield it like a man, and in the off chance you don't want to anymore, you drive it into something to hold it for you. Like a tree, rock, or the heart of an enemy. Sheeesh. Sheaths are for pansies. Man up already your making yourself look ridiculous.
I was just in Algeria
Avoid the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline because we have had alot of rebel activity around those areas lately.
I personally don't go to that hell hole with nothing less then the Algerian Airforce helicopters watching my back.
Why in the heck are you going there? Why is it "something you have to do"?
That is like saying I have to rub beef gravy on my junk and kick a rabid pitbull.
I usually highly advise against westerners going anywhere near Africa or the Middle east mainly because westerners often get themselves into bad situations because they think they are untouchable on a subconscience level.
Come to Dubai instead....... Ill give you the 5 cent tour.
I have just the opposite opinion on the knife / sheath debate.
I love the Becker sheaths but the knifes blow. The first day I had my Eskabar I was wittling some wood and the damn blade chipped.... and not a little oh I can buff that out. A 1/2 section of the blade snapped off like it was made of glass.
I contacted Becker and they said it was my fault.... that I was mistreating the knife or that I somehow removed the tempering of the blade by heating it up.
The only thing I own by Becker that hasn't broken is the sheath.... but that could be due to the fact that the knife didn't last long enough to out live the sheath.
