As far as the BM 710 and Spyderco Military, I have to go with spyderco. This knife is amazing. Almost makes me want to trade my 710 for a paramilitary......

I thought the PM would be amazing, but the compression lock kind of sucks for closing. You have to hold so little knife that it can easily slip and perforate your foot. Luckily mine lefty my foot unperforated. There is a hole in my carpet now, though.

I will now stick with liner or frame locks in the future. Much easier to maintenance too (but the PM wasn't too hard).

You've seen the light! The Military is awesome!

dkb45, I'm happy your foot remains unperforated but I've never found the para hard to hold onto while closing!

I love both my 710 and my Paramilitary. The 710 gets just a touch more love due to much better blade-to-handle ratio and, in my eyes, superior aesthetics.

The military is a great knife...

I also much prefer the Military, and I think you would love the Para as well.

Maybe you could add "for you" or "IMO" with that statement.
The compression lock is one of the easiest locks to disengage IMO, and I can't imagine how anyone could have trouble with it.

You must have butter fingers if you have trouble with the compression lock. Easily one of the safest locks to use.

I like them both very much. Fads and new knives come out but these two are mainstays. Looking forward to the Military2 and 710's with more steel options.

Just tallied all the Millies I've owned:

1 fluted Ti
3 regular Ti
2 camo & black
1 black & black
2 black & satin
1 CPM-440V full serr

The sad thing is I just sold the last one of those I had... :(

I dunno, I have both and feel the opposite is true, but I'm biased towards knives that don't eat up a whole pocket. The wide blade/gigantic handle make the Military (which admittedly feels great in use) just take up too damn much pocket space, IMO.

I had a Military that I traded off. Bought it (blk/digi), took it out of the box, looked great but immediately realized that I hated the jimping on the lock (dug into my index finger), put it back in the box where it stayed for months. Would probably be fine with a glove, but I rarely use gloves when handling my knives.

JMO, YMMV. :)

I dont have a 710 (yet) but the millie is one of my favorite and most beloved knives ever, its a special knife for sure.

I'm so with you man I bought a Military a few weeks ago and it's been hard to carry anything else.

But everything I say is my opinion, and unless otherwise stated is my experience, so those phrases would be redundant...

The I had with the compression lock is that it is both an unfamiliar lock (only had 3 knives with it) and I am a southpaw. The way I could most easily use a compression lock was holding it by the lock tab and the scale opposite the lock tab, because it was awkward for me to use it as a traditional liner lock.

I also only dropped each of my compression lock knives once, and I have dropped most of my knives (on carpet of course, no damage done). An unfamiliar design leads to reckless handling until I get used to it, but now incan operate any of my knives in the dark.

I agree with aesthetics going to the 710 And The Axis lock is solid. But The g10 on the mili is MUCH better! 710 is too plasicy I like how the 710 doesn't take up too much pocket, but the mili is much lighter. Also, The flat grind seems to get a lot sharper than the saber grind. I can prep food with the mili because of its giant handle. Food prep with the 710 is a chore....

I love both my 710 and my Paramilitary. The 710 gets just a touch more love due to much better blade-to-handle ratio and, in my eyes, superior aesthetics.

Imagine this... What If Benchmade and Spyderco put away their differences and Collaborated on a knife that combined the elements of the 710 and the Mili... Flat grind, lots of belly, slight recurve on the blade... Axis lock... Titanium liners... Proper G 10... spyderco hole for opening...Mili style handle... Jimping on choil and spine near thumb...
