Seems like I started on the wrong foot on this board.

My intention was not to "FLOOD" or "TROLL" the board at all, I am a "rookie' when it comes to knives! and that's why I am asking so many questions, some people started attacking me because of that.
Others were very nice and took the time to explain the things to me and I really appreciate that.

I was INSULTED and RIDICULED and a bunch of other things by a MINORITY on this board, so I decided to make some things clear!

I am 22 years old, not a 12 year old KID like some of you RUDE posters here said, English is MY SECOND LANGUAGE therefore it takes a lot of courage to post here asking all kinds of questions at the expanse of sounding like a total MORON and a "troll" like some of you called me.

I am a very serious individual who is here because I want to LEARN more about knives and I was told this is the place to come if I want to learn.

I am sorry if my threads sound stupid or anything like that, in order to learn something I belive I need to ASK as much as possible because I understand you guys (most of you) here are proffessionals when it comes to knives, because of my english barrier, please be patient with me.

The bottom line is this, if you want me out of here, that's no problem I will leave.

I know, the reason why I posted this is because of the very UNPLEASANT welcome from some people on this board, including one of the moderators.

Yeah, guys. Cut poor Misko some slack. He said numerous times now that English is his second language.

And you all know how difficult it is when you learn Canadian and then try to learn English as well.

Yes, you did start on the wrong foot. But the fact that you came back after our, shall we say "speculation as to your character", at least shows us that you are doing more than trolling around.

That said, congratulations on being a proud new knife owner.

Oh PUH-LEEZE.....new to this board? You have been registered, and posting for a year. Same questions too. Nothing wrong with your english abilities either, as is evidenced by your posts here for the last year, and your posts on the metal head board that was linked to by another forumite. Whatever your intentions are, you did not just innocently stumble in here tonight. So, you were bored, and felt like stirring the pot, big deal, just dont play the 'oh poor picked on me' person, we have enough of those already. Have a nice day

Misko,

I've only been here a few months, but one of the things I've learned, and it works other places than here as well, is: if you want to learn, listen at least ten times more than you talk. You'll find, if you stick around here long enough, that most of your questions, actually most of all of our questions, have been asked and answered before. Use the search feature. Read through the archives. On the top of the Blade Discussion Forum page, there is a space where it says something like, "Show topics for the last 10 days" Change it to say, "Show all topics" and you'll have pages and pages of knife related information to learn from. Good luck, if you stick around long enough to get used to the sick senses of humor which seem to surround sharp objects and the people who carry them, you'll learn more than you ever cared to about everything knife related.

And where the Hell is VG??

Cool, thanx man.

I understand what you mean by English as your 2nd language. I speak AMERICAN, and I gotta say that sometimes it's tough to understand those English blokes, 'eh...

Misko,

There is a certain type of person out there that I repeatedly run into (I shared an office with one for 4 years and I now have two coworkers of this type). It's the kind of person who believes in being honest with people to the point of rudeness. They are often brutally blunt with others. And they like to pat themselves on the back for being such honest people. But invariably, when you are honest with them, they go all spastic. I mean really spastic. How DARE anyone criticize them?!!!! I hope you are not one of these types Misko. I reread your post on why people carry knives and I have to say, some of your comments were just plain rude. Yes, people were poking fun at your question because, in all HONESTY, it was a stupid question. You've been here a year and there are tons of examples of what people cut with their knives. It really begs the question: why would you post such a thread? To most of us, it looked like a troll. And your responses seemed to support that contention.

e.g.,

And you wrote back in such a nice way:

cutting stuff? DUH, in this day and age there arent really that many things to cut

Well DUH! Just remember Misko, what goes around comes around. If you want people to be nice to you, try being nice to them. This is a unique concept for some people who feel they have to be brutally honest and the world should thank them for it. If you don't want to be insulted and ridiculed, then don't insult and ridicule others. Hmmmm. I think I just said something really profound here! Maybe I can get this established as some kind of law or rule. How about this: I could call it the "golden rule." Sounds kinda catchy, doesn't it.

And you don't have to thank me for this post. Honestly.

Oh, and another thing, Misko (since you are new here).

It is completely unnecessary to quote everyone who posted before you. You do it just about every post, and sometimes you quote the ENTIRE post in question.

Everyone has already read it once, we really don't need to read it twice. Come to think about it, I don't know why I am reading your posts ONCE, but whatever. Anyways, it's just a waste of bandwidth, so try to keep that in mind.

Misko, HooDoo hit the nail on the head, you got treated in kind to your posts and didn't like it. I think Rich has probably got your number too, you're not what you appear to be?

"Oh, be nice to me I'm a poor FNG, and I have a language problem, and I'm hear to learn so let me ask as many stupid questions as I can and see who I can p_ss off?"

It don't fly Homey. You posted to get some negative reactions and you got them. You waited a year to make yourself known and now you want attention. Don't be too surprised that some people are going to see right through you, and not like what they see. It has nothing to do with your age, or where your from or how much money you have to spend on knives. The people that come here and get along love knives, and like talking to others with the same interest. If that were true of you it wouldn't take a year to get your first knife (my EDC cost $30) and you wouldn't try to be conning people that you're something that you're not.

You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time.

Misko,

Don't apologize for asking a lot of questions. That's how you learn. People like you who seek out knowledge will invariably end up knowing more at the end than the "know it all".

You are a registered member and have the right to post questions. I used to post a lot of questions too but try to do a "search" first.

P.S. There are a lot of "good guys" here too like Steve Harvey, Jim March, Sergiusz Mitin, et al. who know their stuff but don't have the incessant need to prove it by putting others down.

These are the people I respect.

Hey Misko,

How much do you charge to make someone disappear?

Misko, part of the ribbing you're taking is because of your misuse of the word "expanse" when you mean "expense". You did it in your first thread and, after seemingly excusing yourself, did it again in the first post of this thread. Both "expanse" and "expense" are very viable words, but not interchangeable. Even though English (American style, although after having lived in Britain for two years, I am comfortable in the "Queen's language and it's regional dialects) is my primary language, I keep an English dictionary near my computer and refer to it often. Don't be afraid to use the "edit" feature on your page to go back and correct something. Hope this helps.

Regards,

Bruce Woodbury

Vel:

I know EH! Learning Canadian is easy when it is your first language, but learning "aboot" English and American culture is tough. It takes a lot for us Canucks to borrow Dad's dog sled team and ride to the nearest computer in heavy, heavy snow which always is many, many kilometers away (many, many kilometers = many miles, not many many miles). Of course, we stop on the way at a couple of doughnut shops, chat with the local Lumberjacks and Curlers, which puts us at ease eh, but no doubt "aboot" it, once we log on that computer it is frustrating to come across legibly without all of the Canadian references.

That's it eh. Oh, hockey's on! Gotta go!
