Ok...Need your expertise on which small fixed blade?

I agree with many of the others that Bob Dozier's knives fit the spec perfectly. Go to www.dozierknives.com and click on the "hunting knives" image. His hunting and utility knives are all on the same page because they are about the same size and price.

The Livesay Air Assault (someone mentioned it) is longer than the spec (5"), and also a bit heavy for every day utility chores.

Can't go wrong with the Dozier's, I have a NY Special (click my link to see one) and it is a great little knife.

I could also suggest a Benchmade 100 RR, Fallkniven F1.

Maybe it's too specialized but if you like Busse's what about an Assault Shaker?

Good luck, it's a tough job finding the "one perfect knife" :D

I have a Darrel Ralph Arc Lite neck knife with G-10 scales of S90V, and a large Kit Carson F4 out of D-2 which fit fabulously well the exact role you describe.

I have oned a couple of the Spyderco Moran Trailing Points, and now own the Spyderco Moran Drop Point, and I cannot say enough good things about this knife.

I would say that it is perfect for what you are seeking.

Rob Simonich Cetan in Talonite; G-10 or Ti scales (I prefer the latter). Drop it in salt water for a year, fish it out, wipe it down, and it will be ready for duty.

"If it's sharp and bright, it's Talonite (r)" :)

I have to agree with the others. Bob Dozier is the man you wanna buy the knife from. He's got the models that you are looking for. I'm extremely pleased with the Dozier knives I have.

Shmackey is also correct in that you can get two different Fallkniven models for the budget you have.
The F1 and S1 are excellent knives for the money.
