OK, now an oven insulation question

I have my oven bricks all put together in a metal frame. there is an expanded metal plate for the bottom, but the rest is just held by a welded frame. I have some inswool that I would like to wrap around the main body, back and bottom to provide additional insulation. I am planning on making a sheet metal "U" shape, that when inverted will slip down over the top of the oven and hold the wool in place. This way I could easily slide it off should i need to replace bricks or otherwise access the oven. Would galvanized be ok for this application? I know about the opinions on the hazards of heating galvanization, but there will be a layer of brick and inswool between the interior and this shell, so I don't think this will be an issue. What say ye?

Kevin,
Any metal will work. Galvanized would work, as would aluminum. It could even be chicken wire.

Hey kdogmcg that's what I ended up doing for my oven, but the inverse with the "U" shape being the bottom piece. Insulation placed inside around the bricks and then the cover screwed in on top with some angle iron pieces. Looks something like this

To bend the aluminum plate I just drilled a series of holes and then bent using a diy bending jig with some clamps and boards. Worked out great in the end :)

Thanks:) took some legwork but was able to get a nice clean bend by clamping one side to the top of my workbench and then clamping a thick board to the other side, which I pushed into place with my foot just past 90 and then back a hair for a nice clean bend

I built my super insulated heat treat oven using standard reclaimed soft fire brick from a burnt out pottery kiln. It also had another 2" thick insulation on the outside enclosed in a metal frame. I cut all the soft brick and extra insulation down to the size I needed and used a standard over the counter plenum kit you buy for duct work coming off a furnace. It has prebent ends on sides and top and you cut to size and hammer together. Worked great. Should be able to buy at any HVAC supply house just tell them you want a plenum kit.
