OK - now I'm hooked for sure - my latest toothpick aquisition

As I have posted in some other threads, I've been kind of floundering in the vast selections of traditional knives. I received my 3rd traditional today, and I think I am solidly hooked and have found my direction.

My first one was a Charlow - so very glad I happened to be around for this one - it is a keeper for sure because of its uniqueness especially with the gun stock walnut. Next arrival was a Titioute #21 toothpick in bocote. Ok - this is even better - the toothpick design really talks to me. I found it a bit hard to open with my weak hands and fingers (RA), but after a little oil and working it I can use it.

So, to take the toothpick obsession a step farther, after hours of research, I pulled the trigger on a Schatt & Morgan large toothpick (5.5" closed) in morning ash worm groove bone. Oh man.....how I love this knife! Easy enough for me to open, the handle length is just perfect as I can wrap all 5 fingers around it (also important with my RA), and the beautiful thin blade - all adds up to the perfect knife for me so far. Now I am on the hunt for other >5" toothpick knives to see what variations I can find.

First time I had the gumption to take a photo of one of my new knives - that says something right there. This is my first time posting pics on this forum, so if there are too large or something please let me know.

Great pictures! Beautiful knife! I'm glad you found one that really works for you.

 +1. I'll second Gary, great and great! I've got the same knife from F&W series I in darker bone. Yours has fancier bolsters!

I have always been partial to the file and wire stuff. That worm groove is probably the reason! :)

That's a beautiful knife, Coaltrain. :) If you're looking for 5+ inch blades of similar design, may I suggest that you might want to take a look at Miguel Nieto's Navajas (I think the name of the model is Sevilla)? I recently bought a smaller one and am very pleased with it. Here's a poor pic of mine, and a link to the page from their catalogue:

Nice 'pick. You may as well just set up a separate line item in your budget right now.... :D

Well done on those photos! Beautiful shots of a beautiful knife
Very cool also, that you found a pattern that suits your particular needs! I love toothpicks, and that one sure is sweet...

Thanks everyone! It feels even better when you all share my enthusiasm - what a great group!

Those pics were basically "off the hip" for me - had to get some to post quickly. I plan to take my time and do some nice ones in the future.

Wolf_HR - thanks for the suggestion of the Miguel Nieto's Navajas - but one of the pluses of the Schatt & Morgan is that it is made in Pennsylvania.

And yes......it is already working in my mind how to appropriate some more funding - as I said I am hooked now!

Really glad you found a toothpick that works for you, Stan, I know how much you like that pattern. And even better that you got the GEC working well enough to keep it.

Here's the one I picked up from that same group that Ed G was selling:

Just the right size:

I'm more than happy John (jc57). Now that I've handled a couple bone handled knives along with the 2 you sent me to try, I'm starting to warm up to it some more. That's a fine specimen you have there. Now that I know what I do, I would have bought some more from the batch that EdG was selling.

mrrampro - the grip on the F&W works very well for me. To begin with I have large hands - have a very hard time finding gloves that will fit me - why oh why does Tractor Supply only stock gloves in size 'L'???. I can easily wrap all four fingers around the handle with room to spare - gives me a very confident grip with my arthritic hands. I'll have to get a shot with my holding it to post tomorrow.
