I've been to one of the Indy 1500 shows, and I bought some nice stuff there. However, and no disrespect to Mike and crew, but they probably won't have anywhere near the selection you'd find at Knob Creek. Also, I haven't been to Blade, but from what I've heard of the "games" that sometimes must be played to buy knives (due to the crowds and the need to ensure they don't run out of knives before the show ends), I'd even recommend Knob Creek over Blade. However, Blade is certainly the more social event and I've never met Jerry, Amy, or Dan, although Garth and Drew always come to Knob Creek, along with several others from the crew (sorry, but I'm drawing a blank on other names except Sammie [AKA "Bubbles"] right now). Blade also tends to have some show specials, which let you pick up some great bargains, but for the selection of knives and sheer convenience of buying whatever they brought without having to wait until the designated day/time for each item to be sold, I don't think you can beat Knob Creek.
The only caveat I'd add is that it REALLY pays to come early, like Friday morning when the show opens, or Jerry issued an open invitation to the "pre-show" sale at the motel last time, and that was even better. There'll still be a lot of good stuff on later days, but Knob Creek is first-come-first-served. Heck, I was at the motel as stuff was unpacked, and Hogs were grabbing so fast that I never saw some stuff except in pictures, but I took home some fantastic knives that night. Even if you're at Knob Creek Friday morning when it first opens, much of the "best" stuff (like AKs and any old-school straight-handled knives) will have sold the night before. So, if they continue to permit it, Thursday night at the motel is the place and time to be. I was even offered cheesecake, but declined -- they looked good, but I had (over) eaten fast-food while driving out and was stuffed. Note to the crew: I've begun walking the stairs at work after lunch, so I should be in better shape to help carry stuff up next time.
