I live a pretty LONG way from Indy but I am thinking about driving over from Iowa for the show next weekend...(nothing really to do in the winter here, and its assumin' we dont get pounded with snow again)....... will it be worth the trip or should I wait for blade show in Atlanta?

Knob Creek, KY in April is where the action is.

But thats a long time to wait when you want something sharp.

I've been there a couple of times. They usually have around 50-100 knifes. Some good deals, but nothing like the big shows.

rion 72 - would be happy to proxy for you if you don't come over. Just let me know what you're looking for:thumbup: You can send me a PM or email me at ceiwmab@sbcglobal.net

How awesome is that? Gotta love this place

I am trying to be good and avoid finding a proxy for this one - too much cool steel available and not enough money to pay for both that and the mortgage....

Anyone want a "slightly" used liver???

I've been to one of the Indy 1500 shows, and I bought some nice stuff there. However, and no disrespect to Mike and crew, but they probably won't have anywhere near the selection you'd find at Knob Creek. Also, I haven't been to Blade, but from what I've heard of the "games" that sometimes must be played to buy knives (due to the crowds and the need to ensure they don't run out of knives before the show ends), I'd even recommend Knob Creek over Blade. However, Blade is certainly the more social event and I've never met Jerry, Amy, or Dan, although Garth and Drew always come to Knob Creek, along with several others from the crew (sorry, but I'm drawing a blank on other names except Sammie [AKA "Bubbles"] right now). Blade also tends to have some show specials, which let you pick up some great bargains, but for the selection of knives and sheer convenience of buying whatever they brought without having to wait until the designated day/time for each item to be sold, I don't think you can beat Knob Creek.

The only caveat I'd add is that it REALLY pays to come early, like Friday morning when the show opens, or Jerry issued an open invitation to the "pre-show" sale at the motel last time, and that was even better. There'll still be a lot of good stuff on later days, but Knob Creek is first-come-first-served. Heck, I was at the motel as stuff was unpacked, and Hogs were grabbing so fast that I never saw some stuff except in pictures, but I took home some fantastic knives that night. Even if you're at Knob Creek Friday morning when it first opens, much of the "best" stuff (like AKs and any old-school straight-handled knives) will have sold the night before. So, if they continue to permit it, Thursday night at the motel is the place and time to be. I was even offered cheesecake, but declined -- they looked good, but I had (over) eaten fast-food while driving out and was stuffed. Note to the crew: I've begun walking the stairs at work after lunch, so I should be in better shape to help carry stuff up next time.

Will Blade really be this way? What are the odds that a Busse noob like myself will be able to get my hands on any INFI, much less what I may be looking for?

I was planning on saving up and going to Blade to buy my first Busse but if they'll all be snatched up by Hogs then I'll have to think of something else...

Please excuse this, my first post in the Busse forum, for its pessimistic content :o

As I said, I've never been to Blade, but I've heard about a couple different things that have been done. I "think" that some CGs are always available off of the table, but that others are doled out on a schedule. In one case, I read that Jerry would periodically pull out a knife from bins in the back, hold it up, and people would call out that they wanted to buy it ("Pick me!!!, Pick me..."); one person would be chosen, and they could buy that knife. Another time, I heard that cards were prepared for each of the knives, then the cards were tossed into the crowd -- if you got a card, you could buy that knife, or you could try to trade your card(s) for card(s) that would permit you to buy one or more knives you wanted more. I don't know if either of those stories are typical, but I've been to several Knob Creeks, and except for one show, where knives were in boxes labeled to be sold on each day, everything that they bring is available immediately. Several times, when I've wanted more of a knife than was on the table, the crew dug them out of bins for me. Blade has parties and induction dinners, and they sell a lot of knives too, but for just buying steel, I'll stick with Knob Creek.

Blade 07 was an absolute madhouse, big crowd at the Busse booth, Jerry tossing cards into the crowd, everyone shouting "I'll take it! I'll take it" Great fun.:cool:

Blade 09 was a much smaller crowd, and there was plenty of INFI for everyone. When we got to the the booth at 12:00 noon Friday, the counter was covered with a variety of CG, and Custom Shop stuff, from all three brands. Everything on the counter was 20% off for the first hour. That was part of Jerry's way of showing appreciation for his customers having spent their time and money just to get to Atlanta. Then there were various releases of new knives every few hours over Friday and Saturday.

Welcome! Come on in, the mud is fine!

If you live in Atlanta, and don't come to Blade, then you can never show your face here again. :D

Seriously, you've got to come. You will score INFI. You will meet Amy, and the rest of the crew. And you can hang with Jerry and the Hogs at the fountain in front of the hotel, smoke cigars, and get really drunk.

Thanks!

You know, I was this close to coming to Blade '09 but I had work to do... I'll do my damndest to get there this year :D

For pure blade numbers, Blade, Knob Creek and then Indy. Mike is the only factory sanctioned rep at Indy and has to bring everything he needs in one vehicle where the other 2 shows bring more company personnel and vehicles. The Indy shows do bring out at least 1 Uber Hog and more than a few Stealth Hogs and the accessibility to the assortment of blades is very good. I hit every Indy show and we always have a great time.
