I am selling off all of the knives I don't carry for duty, and, just to clarify, this includes all the Benchmades, Emersons, CRKT's I've bought on impulse over the years and don't carry religiously on duty. I really want to replace it with something that I will keep for the rest of my life and will work like hell for the rest of my life. It appears the are indestructible. :)

I have two Bradley Alias' (one serrated, one plain), but I really want a Sebenza. Am I making the right choice with the Sebenza...I'm thinking of the large regular model. A friend of mine has one, and I was amazed at the quality, workmanship and feel of the knife.

Am I making the right choice...is there anything I need to know about the Large Sebenza before I take the plunge?

by duty use, i assume you are a cop, or law enforcement of some sort.

in general you absolutely cant go wrong with the sebenza in any configuration.

i have carried mine on duty, but only when on admin detail. i can accept losing an emerson in the field. not because it is a lesser knife, but because i can easily replace it.

i might cry if i lost one of my sebbies.

As Mori says, the Sebenza will do what you want and keep doing it for a long time with minimal care, but losing it would be very disheartening.

I've had mine in regular use for 3 years now and it's in as good condition now as it was when I got it. I even dropped it about 2 metres onto concrete once and it didn't even chip the blade!

yes, they are beyond tough. i certainly dont baby mine, but the thought of losing it in the ghetto, and some knucklehead finding it.....

uuggghhh..:barf:

How are the pocket clips? I heard one person on this forum tell of his Sebenza falling out of his pocket while clipped...is this common???

I really want a Sebenza (large classic model)... Thankyou from the bottom of my heart for all your advice and wisdom...keep it comin' Yyall..are awesome!

By the way...Happy New Year to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! May 2008 bring prosperity to all of us knife nuts!

the clip is fine. i have never had one fall out, though i have a habit of "pocket checking" myself just to make sure.

If you need me ill be walking behind you watching the pavement :D

I will say this, I used to carry sebs in the back right pocket and did on occasion find it being dragged out by taking off a coat getting out of the ar, etc. I carry now in right front pocket, no problems.

It is hard to go wrong with the Sebenza. I have the large regular and a small classic and a Snake wood Mnandi. I like the IWB carry for security and the clip is not that obvious to non knife people. I use to carry in back right pocket by my billfold and had it catch on my seat belt when getting out of my truck. Worse in a car. I like CRK's clip a lot. I have several Spydercos, benchmades and Kershaws but my small classic is my favorite, especially since I have it reground by Tom Krein. I also have an Ouperator by STR that I like a lot.

The Sebenza clip is very strong. I'd say it is more secure than any of the other knives (mostly Spydercos and Benchmades) that I own and tears up my pocket accordingly. In fact, the clip is my biggest complaint... because my pockets are all getting ugly around the edges. Otherwise, the clip is phenomenal for retention, IMO.

If the knife clip is pushed onto the pocket lip completely - its very hard for it to come out accidentally. But it needs to be pushed onto pocket completely! The indentation (for lack of a better word) in the clip needs to be 'passed' by the lip of the pocket. Whoa! Hard to describe. Anyway - when you stare hard at the clip, you'll see it.

My only real complaint about my sebbie is that it's a small and not a large. :D Truly phenomenal knives. You can't go wrong with one of these.

Been carrying mine EDC for over 2 years now clipped to my right front pocket. Never had it fall out or even threaten to.

If you have a shop around you to try them out, handle a regular and a classic to see which you like better. I think I like the regulars better, but I like my new micarta very much as well and its a classic.

Unfortunately, the only real knife shop in town (Las Vegas) only had a small classic, and wanted over 500 bones for it! The sebenza wasn't even in the shop because no one had purchased it. The guy tried to sell me another Bradley Alias (I've got two). All the gun shops and LE equipment shops all sell Benchmades and CRKT's with other brands sprinkled in there. The only large one I handled was my buddies large "custom" one. I loved it, but the classic seems to look like I would like it better. I dunno:confused:

It seems like either one would be awesome. Thanks for the info everybody and happy new year!

I suggest any literally any Sebenza large or small. There are so many occasions that I use both sizes. As far as falling out of your pocket; buy a good sheath. Plenty of good makers on this forum such as Lifter's and Vess; I own a couple from each and they are fabulous. It is money well spent in my mind.

I have also done the same thing as far as getting rid of all but my edc knives. I had a Sebenza before but sold it. I've missed it ever since and finally did something about it this past Christmas and got myself a large Classic with snakewood inserts. When you get right down to it, the Sebenza is all the folding knife I really need! Like it so much I've already put another large Classic with some lignum vitae wood on order for the end of this month.

If you decide on a Classic you might want to look at the micarta inlaid version. The inlays give the knife a little bit more width and a better hold, for me at least.

Be interested in hearing how it goes.:D

I suppose the first question would be whether you tend to "misplace" your knives. If so, I would recommend something a little less expensive. If not, you can't go wrong with the Sebbie.

The current clip is, I think, one of the Sebenza's best features; smooth on the underside yet with enough tension for control (at least of my small Sebenza). I have an older large I seldom carry with the old style turned up clip. This style has led to a couple of problems and I should probably replace it with a new style.

You will notice pocket wear but that is the case for any clip knife I think.

If you're going to carry a knife, carry a good one . . . and the Sebenza is simply the best.

Jump on that Sebenza----NOW! You won't look back but don't hold me on that! The KNIFE thing can get nuts.
