ok so i am going to write a 110 book

I don't have anything to offer, except to say I would definitely be in for at least 1 book. IMHO the greatest knife ever made. I carry one everyday.

I think the book is a great idea and I would buy a copy. With as much history as the 110 has it is a big story with lots of directions that you could go in. I would like to know more about its impact on the people who used it. What groups chose it and why. Stories about real life people and using there 110's in different and dangerous situations. That kind of stuff is interesting to me.

yes buck is planning on a book for the 50th of the 110
I would love to work with them on theirs but
They seem that they want to do their own approach
which may be jest a celebration of the 110 or jest a history, I am not sure
I have not heard from the lady that is supposed to be working on it
and it may not happen there ... I don't know

jest as if I ( god forbid ) had a health issue that prevented me from working on mine
but if they contacted me I would collaborate however that I could including traveling there ...

That's to bad, you would be speaking my language if you did. I grew up in dollar holler myself, just a little north of the Arkansas state line in the Ozarks mountains.

Don't forget to include the Icons WHO DESIGNED THE 110 ,Along with the rest of the gang that make Buck Knives Inc.what it is.Joe Houser,Jeff Hubbard,C.J buck,Chuck Buck, all the custom makers of 110 custom shop knives etc.Make it a good read I know you will do it right Dave!!!!!!I'll be waiting to buy my copies!

Dave, I know there have been a few others that offered their proof reading talents. I'll throw my towel into that ring also, even though I am no professional. I have proof red (intentional) a few books for people I know...and because I read slow, I can sometimes catch mistakes that other people don't. :)

Also, I live close enough to you that if you need any help, we could always talk about it over lunch sometime.

Dave,
I am also in agreement for you to write the book also. Also include the the 426 Bucklite model.
A section on how it can be disassembled and reassembling of the old 110.
But keep the book affordable for us ol' gessers out here.
Thanks.
Myya

110 I think it is a good ideal and I would like two, one for the book case and one to read in the tub. I like the thought of having stories of the many trades people that use the 110 as a tool for day to day life. One other thing good photos showing the difference in the dates and variations of. Good Luck.
Bob.
PS you got something against mountain people.

yes I had planed to gather stories of the 110 being used in all aspects of it being used
esp I wanted to get stories of any ones first one ten

I will post here in another thread to post your 110 stories
in the mean time
Buck has started a contest for stories of the 110
free entry for prizes!
any one wanting to have their story that they send in to buck
also in my book can send me that story also..
note I am not trying to go around buck
I had planed on my book before I knew any thing of bucks contest..
note those that sent stories in one of my give aways before
I will be going through those for one ten stories and may use some of them.
so any one that MAY have sent a 110 story that don't want it used
let me know ...
yes stumps close is great!

yes .. that rubber bucky is in my displays and I still smile when I see it
that knife went cross country about 3 or 4 times and
got raves from every one that handled and used it
I did several and sent them to the sand box but never heard of them
hopefully we will hear of one of them some time here
I made a 112 like that and sent it around some
bucksway has that one in his collection
yes I will include it

I have been involved with publishing, both ink-on-paper and electronic, for a number of years. I can tell you that the production costs of a traditional book will be high, given the need for color illustrations and coated paper to print on. It would probably be printed & bound overseas, but even so, unless the print run is substantial (1,500-2,500), the per-copy price for a large-format paperback book will be in the $50 to $100 range. Some folks will be OK with that, others will find the price a barrier.

Some thoughts:
• See if a hobby publisher (Krause Publications, for example) is interested. (That way, they assume the financial risk.) (And they make a profit or they don't do it.)
• Publish electronically (in PDF).
• Publish as a wiki page.
• If Buck is doing a book on the 110 (and whatever else they wish to include), that will pretty well kill the market for another Buck 110 book for a long time.

I don't want to be a wet blanket. But for someone to take on the cost of publishing (which means editing, manufacturing, warehousing, and selling) an independent book on the Buck 110 will be a substantial investment. On the same order or higher as arranging for a club knife from a high-quality manufacturer such as GEC, but with the disadvantage that you will not know how many copies will sell.

I didn't read every post, but this is the kind of thing that interests me:
Why did Buck make the changes to the 110 (or why does any maker make changes to any model for that matter) over the years. I know not much has changed, by, for instance, why did the number of pins change? Was it because of breakage or something else?

I would purchase a book on the 110,,, suggestion is to also include the 112 in the discussion and time line.
The 110 and 112 are so similar and both have fans and collectors.

yes I will be having some discussion on other lock back knives by buck as it was the folding hunter that inspired them
I will soon be posting a contest for stories from youal out there about your 110's
and I will have a separate contest for pictures of your 110 or related such as the 560 186 426 ect..
note entering your story/picture will constitute permission to use the story/picture in the book
so far I have had some progress in locating some of my older information and gathering it together
I will need to take some high def pictures of my knives and will ask every one for pictures of folding hunter
issues I do not have... currently I have apx 70 % of the gold etch that have been issued... but that is a guess
I will say that I have been some what slowed down with buying a house near Dallas TX
and arranging things for my marriage in may but things and life move on ...

Alright, not sure getting married is the best reason I have heard for a work delay but I'll let it stand :-)

You have a 4 day pass (liberty I guess for the Navy) after the wedding but then we expect you to get right on it! :-)

Messing with you of course. Please keep us posted on it.
