ok so I'm a Texan......

Not to get this thread to far of the path... But all you Easterners wanting to get to Texas, strike out west like your headed for California the land of (Fruit and Nuts). When you are about half way across Oklahoma(Home of the Redman) when you smell BS take a sharp left, the odor will get stronger and stronger, when it is at it's strongest you're in Texas.. Roll up your britches legs and carry on.. You will have a great time.....:)

Lol..... Don't forget to bring a slippy as an entrance fee.

About 30 years ago I was driving across country and my route took me through Texas. Along the first couple of miles of interstate were a series of billboards with the basic Texas driving laws. The last one was, "DRIVE FRIENDLY". Hope they still say that.

Yep. You still see that. For those that don't know or recall, the word "Texas" or "Tejas" is a native word meaning "Friends". :)

I've always liked that the concealed carry laws preclude weapons in bars and churches.

Bars I can easily understand, but churches? I guess y'all really take your Sundays seriously! ;)

Speaking of Texas, let's see if we can't steer this discussion back to traditional knives...

Of the 32 custom slipjoints I own, 10 of 'em hail from Tejas off the benches of such luminaries as Bill Ruple, Rusty Preston, Don Morrow, J.B. Moore and my good friend Jerry Halfrich.

Note sure what you mean about church. I took my CC class last year and as far as I recall churches that don't post a very specific sign about it, you can carry. I can check my book when I get home to make sure though. It gives a new meaning to the ministry of defense, doesn't it? ;)

Those are just a few examples of why I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. In my eyes you are more Texan than some of the folks that move here. Let me know if you ever come around these parts. I'll pull out my Lucchese elephant ropers and we'll head to one of the BBQ joints for some beef ribs, hot sausage and brisket (suddenly I am really hungry).

Right kind of you, texasflyfisher! And if I have some extra pesos in my pocket when I get there, I just might buy some Luccheses! I've always wanted a pair.

In that spirit, I'd like to ask panch0 and other true-blue Texans what most folks there carry. I have long had this impression (no idea where I got it) that German Eye Brand stockman and trappers are quite common, as are yellow/CV Case knives and - more recently - Moore Makers. Is this on the money, or just hooey.

PS: If you have too many knives, guys, sell some and use the money to buy a few Lyle Lovett, Townes Van Zandt or Robert Earl Keene CDs. :D

Most of the knife owners here are split between tacticools and slippies. They are mostly chinamade stuff. My friends are starting to carry slippies and spydies. It took some convincing on my part but no complaints from them.

Don't forget to pick up a Kevin Fowler CD also.

Isn't better an enemic word, sorry! :o

Case 3318 in yellow delrin CV
MooreMaker 3300 in yellow delrin carbon

Basically the F&F of the MooreMaker is a higher quality.

The springs to the liners are much closer without gaps.
The spring ending at the bolsters are straight and equal.
The end angle of the bolster to the scales are at right angles, not odd little angles.
The turkish clip has an attractive curve to it and slight recurve.
The point of the sheepsfoot is more pronounced so there is a sharper point where the curve of the blade meets the grind.
The spey blade has a small easy opener cut out on the side so all the blades sit lower and take less space.

On the Case the sheepsfoot was sitting proud so I had to file down the kick on the blade so it would sit lower.
The Case grind on the clip is more centered.
The walk on the Case is stronger on the two smaller blades.

Both are great working knives for the same price.
When you hold both knives, the MooreMaker looks a higher quality.

Good to know. Thanks

BTW, not sure if you got the email, but AFAIK you were the only one who understood the semaphore.

Had a MM sodbuster. Way to much blade play. Sent it back! Personally, for the money I would get a GEC.

If you are polite, you will never ask a man if he is a Texan. If he is, he will tell you sooner than later and if he is not..............................well, there's no sense in embarrasing him.

My one and only MM is the little double lock back model number 3209DBL. Yellow, clip and spey, 3 3/4" closed, with high average fit and finish. It retailed when I got it for $60.50 which seemed fairly well in line with the competiton. (at least to me). I'm not sure which of the contract companies made it, but it is USA.

I usually carry an Erickson trapper, but sometimes I change up with my Ray Kirk scagel, a Coats single blade trapper, or a Menefee single blade trapper. I really need to post pictures of the latter two. And finally, I sometimes carry a Queen canoe or a Moore Maker sowbelly moose. Obviously I need more pockets.

Good tip on the music, mnblade, but I already own all of Townes' CDs.

Wow! Mooremaker has fast shipping, too bad they sent me the wrong knife. They sent me a muskrat. Oh well I guess I have to wait and play with it later.:(

I only have experience with the Queen-made 5301 with bone scales. I have two of them, and both have outstanding fit and finish, better than anything I have from Case.

A lot of the newer bone-handled Moore Makers are from Bear & Son, and I haven't handled any of them (look for a B in the model number).

The buffalo horn and yellow handled ones were made by Camillus, I don't know who is making them now.
