Ok, so is the Griptilian about the best buy for $60ish?

Yeah, I've been watching that but they only have the ones with the hole in the blade on sale. I don't like that design, I want the thumbstud version, and it's a totally different product number so I'm sure they won't honor the price (which I think is stupid either way).

the ones gpk has on special are the oval holes, the new ones will have round holes or studs-guy from gpk said so the other day in a thread-

me i would buy a cabelas d2 version over either stud or hole 154

Yeah I know, I wish they would put the stud version on sale.

D2 isn't worth it for me right now. Maybe my next knife.

What's best is subjective. Most, if not all, will agree the Mini-Grip is one of the best values in the sub $70ish range. I do really like the smoothness of the Axis lock, but I have no problems with liner, frame, and back locks either (tho, not as smooth). I'd also personally look at the following options:

- Kershaw Avalanche - as already suggested, S30V blade with G10 scales, very nice! The AO is plenty fast for me and the G10 is grippy but doesn't seem overly so to me. Can be had for as low as $68 online (the lowest I've seen it).
- Kershaw S30V/G10 Leek - like the Avalanche, a great value with it's materials and quality of mfr. I personally don't really like the design of the Leek, but others do and I still have to admit the amazing value of it. $68 at Savson.
- Several other Kershaws and soon-to-be-released Kershaws such as Mini-Cyclone, JYD, Lahar, and NRG are also very nice looking pieces for the price.
- Spydercos such as Native, Delica, Endura, Cara Cara in G10, etc.
- Camillus EDC, Blaze, and Heat are all nice and lower priced.
- Boker Trance - not yet released, but if it's anything like the Subcom which it looks to be, it should be a great knife, especially for the $30ish price.
- Buck Sirus and others (forgot the model names) that come in 154CM/ATS-34 for about $60...very nice!

All good offerings. Which is best?...eh, they're all good. I have my faves, as do others.

Any of the BM Grips are good. The Axis lock is about as good as you can get.
The Grips are good working knives. They may be the Glock of knives, not pretty but very practical.

I can't imagine that you would regret buing a BM MiniGriptilian. I love mine. If I get a new knife, I might use it for EDC for a while, but I always go back to the MiniGrip.

In response to everyone who recommends a similar knife (i.e., a Spyderco) that does not have an Axis lock, I would say that, a similar knife without an Axis lock is not similar knife.

My advice - Buy the MiniGrip.

OK seriously (wow I've been away for a while, it's good to be back!) I think one of the most, if not THE MOST overlooked folder for $60 or less is the large CRKT S-2. See, it hasn't even been mentioned yet :p . I mean seriously .... I know it's discontinued but they sell regularly on the forums for about $55. Can anyone name a titanium framelock that sells for under $100? OK, there is the Benchmade Benchmite, but that's a tiny little knife and most people who have handled both the Benchmite and the S-2 come out heavily in favor of the S-2.

I had one for a while before I regretfully traded it away ... it's a great beefy workhorse of a knife, and I miss it, but I realize that I only have need for one working EDC, and that's my Endura Wave. (Which I also think is a screaming deal, but then FRN handles don't bother me at all and I love the wave feature with a passion).

In sum .....

Things I liked about the S-2
Beefy
Solid as heck
Titanium handle
Sharpest knife I ever had
Less than $60!

Things I didn't like about the S-2
Detent on mine was a little much (cut myself on it once)
Pocket Clip sucked

Dude - If you keep looking you will always find something better.

Just buy it, have fun then buy a different one some day.

I just bought the grip 2 days ago and I love it.

This is probably the last thread I'll make until I get my Griptilian unless someone can recommend a better knife for the same money. I don't know of any knives that are similar but I'm sure there are. Thanks.

Certainly not similar but everything a small pocketknife needs: U2 :)

But I also like my cheap thin-bladed opinel as much as my griptilian:D

Today I received a full-size Griptilian, the limited edition grey model. Although it doesn't fit my big hand for my preferred comfortable four-finger grip, I am knocked out by this wonderful knife. The ergos and texture of the handle are terrific. I guess they'd have to make the handle 4-3/4 inches to accommodate me, but for so many other folks, this has got to be wonderful. The action is as smooth as butter and the lines are oh so attractive. I am sold on the Axis lock now (this is my first experience with it). This is truly one of knifedoms great achievements. I'm just going to have to get a bigger Benchmade, I guess.

Now that the Mini-Griptillian comes with a round hole, it may be the best knife Spyderco never made.:o Now that Benchmade is using the round hole, this the Mini Grip has got to be one of the slickest small knives available at any price.

I have the mini grip in D2 in my pocket every day.. i would recommend it to anyone.

Wow my thread is back from the dead :p

I may still pick up a Grip sometime, but I also want a Leek now as well. I don't really have use for three knives but I can always buy them to just have.

Which is exactly why I will never buy a BM with a round hole. To me a BM with a round hole is not truly a BM despite spyderco's authorization of its use. For instance, the AFCK with the hole was actually intended to be a beefier spyderco police. If i'm buying a BM its going to be a thumb stud with an axis lock and if I'm buying a spydie its going to have a round hole and probably a back lock.

The Griptilian is the best knife in that price point.

The Spydercos don't compare at all.
