OK, so let's see some ivory handled knives

Those Northwoods knives are quite popular and good looking, can you give us a ball park figure on the cost of them?

Mark,

Northwoods are IMO an upper tier product, many from GEC. They generally range $100ish ~$200 for bone folders. $200ish Ivory and up. Sweet knives, I have a few:)

I have no idea of how many Christenings , Weddings and Funerals this knife has seen but its Tradition now lives on with me.
He got it aged 21 and Died aged 83 .
It has been confirmed as Ivory but that is about all I know .

Thanks Tiny, So a nice ivory handled knife can be gotten for a real reasonable price, not really the elitist thing some people think it is. Thanks for the info.

The ivory versions, of course, are more expensive than the other cover materials. Most run in the low- to mid-$200's IIRC. The elephant ivory models sell out super fast and can go for a premium (especially on the second-hand market, because they rarely cone up FS).

Here's another example - I just received this Forest Jack in mammoth ivory, and this one was $240 shipped from Derrick at KnivesShipFree:

Love 'em!

Wow Ken, that is a gem. Aged to perfection!

There are are surprises in this thread, and some things I knew were true. The first surprise for me was the popularity and relative low price of some ivory handled knives, namely the Northwoods folders. Very popular and at about $250.00 for an ivory handled one, well within reach for most knife enthusiasts.

Not surprising to me, the range in style and price range ivory handled knives come in. From working EDC knives to absolute one-of-a-kind gems. From $250.00 to several thousand, there is a knife for everyone.

Also not surprising to me, how easy it is to tell the difference between elephant ivory and almost every other kind of ivory to even a casual observer from just an internet picture. We could tell on all but a small percentage of the handles here, by casual observation, what they were, if you spent just a little bit of time studying the characteristics of the various ivories.

Excellent thread. I am sure that many of these exquisite knives will become heirlooms and never hit the open market. Can I become a family member ? :)

I love this. Does anyone know if CRK still offers mammoth ivory inlays? I didn't see that option on their 2015 price list.

Thanks I'm really enjoying it and looks much better in person . As far as availability this was the last one my dealer had as of a few weeks ago but he has a order for more but wasn't sure if it would be filled or not.
They did mention the Mammoth Bark Ivory is or might be getting harder to get .

I just emailed CRK, and they aren't offering ivory or Ivory bark anymore. 😔

Oh ok I wasn't sure and didn't want to misinform you . Well you still could get lucky and find one on the market if you keep your eyes open for one . Good luck and happy hunting :)

Yeah. I really wanted one with rain drop Damascus, mammoth bark ivory, and all silver hardware.
