Whether it be a LM or a Vicky or Brand "X" we all carry a multi tool of one sort or another... the question I pose here is what do you carry to back it up...

I carry two benchmade knives (425 and a 635) to use for finer work or some job that wont mess up the blade... thats why I carry a Surge... for the rough stuff...

So what Multi do you carry and what is it's backup so to speak???

I went may years carrying only a Leatherman Wave (original model). When I got back into "tactical" knives a couple years back, I started carrying one of those, too. I've recently started collecting slipjoints, so I sometimes slip one in my pocket in addition to, or in lieu of, a locking folder.

Favorite folders: Benchmade 710, Switchback, Ares, Mini Skirmish or 941; Spyderco Persian, Native III, Calypso Jr., Manix (for heavy work), or SS Cricket (for discreet dress carry); Buck/Strider Tarani; Al Mar Eagle Ultralight, especially in summer; CRKT M21-04 (for heavy work), Ryan Model 7, Bladelock II or Mirage Titanium Grey Ghost (for dress); Kershaw Blur (red).

Favorite Slipjoints: an old NYKCo. Teardrop Jack, Marble's Gladstone Teardrop Jack, Fight'n Rooster Cannitler, Bulldog Large Wharncliff Whittler, Schrade Old Timer 98OT Slim Stockman, Schrade Old Timer 61OT Large Slim Stockman, Sears Craftsman/Schrade Large Stockman, Case Tested XX Midnight Bone Sowbelly, Bulldog Five-Blade Sowbelly.

I own a crapload of good multi-tools, but the one I carry most often now is the Leatherman Charge Ti (with the extra bit kit), but I'll sometimes carry the old Wave, since it's much less bulky; or my SwissTool Spirit for the same reason, and for a change of pace; or my Leatherman Surge, if I anticipate a lot of rough work; or when I just don't feel like carrying big pliers, a Victorinox CyberTool Lite.

Lately I've been carrying a SwissTool Spirit, a SwissCard Lite, an alox SAK of some sort (mostly an Electrician or Cadet in the city, Farmer outdoors), a folder (usually a Spyderco, but I change a lot) and a fixed blade (pocket sized in the city, larger outdoors).

At work it varies, sometimes nothing, othertimes a Case or Shrade pocket knife...today, it's a Benchmade lockback. Days off I always carry a Schrade OT. My current multi carry is a Core at work and Surge on my days off:cool:

I carry one of these multitools:

- original Leatherman
- SOG PowerLock
- original Leatherman SuperTool
- Leatherman Juice CS4

and one of these scissors tools:

- Leatherman Micra
- Schrade Tough Chip

and a folding knife including these or others:

- Spyderco Native
- Victorinox One-Hand Trekker

and a Channellock 4.5" tongue in groove pliers:

and a stainless steel SwissTech Screwz-All screwdriver tool:

I also carry one or more LED flashlights, a whistle, and a small compass.

I tend to mix it up a little, the two constant EDC's i have are the Vic. Spartan Lite and the Spyderco Cricket, depending on my mood or where i'll be going, i will choose a third blade more on a whim than anything....

my choices are;
Spyderco SE SS Harpy
Spyderco PE FRN Native
Spyderco Dyad Jr
Kershaw PE Scallion

today i'm carrying the Harpy, Cricket, and SAK

I got the Victorinox Spirit from My Better Half for Christmas.

Since that point I've carried the Spirit on my belt and the MiniChamp in my jeans watch pocket.

My Spirit all the time in my belt. (everyday)
My Swisstool X in my car door inside a fobus holster. With Surefire Z2
Benchmade griptilian tanto (Mel Pardue Design in my pocket, only with jeans, when I wear kakhis a Spyderco Endura is lighter)
My backpack Leatherman PST (my first tool found it in 1995) Nuwaii # watt led
Desk drawer Vic Camper!
Car Vic Spartan.

and 16 more multitools around the house, my jeep, my range bag, my room, my fiance's car and house so I think I have back up! :D

I either carry my Vic Swisstool Spirit or LM Surge, depending on what I expect to do. If I back up the multi-tool at all, my current choice is a Spyderco Native.

SwissTool Spirit or old Leatherman PST II on the belt, an early BM 812 in RH pocket, SAK Pioneer or Soldier by Victorinox in LH pocket.

Regards,
FK

Leatherman Micra and Spydie Delica do everything I need. Trying to downside all of the junk I carry around (multi-tool, knife, 2 lights, cell, gun, wallet, keys, and sometimes pepper spray), and so far so good. For me, there is little reason to lug around a Wave and a Military.

best regards

For almost 10 years my EDC multitool has usually been a Supertool (original) and, most recently, a Supertool 200. Actually, I prefered the original, but recently gave it away to a deserving friend and broke out the 200 I had bought at a blowout price and was saving for such an occasion.

It's okay, I can live with it, and the blade release mechanism is more convenient and probably safer than on the original (altho I never cut myself). But it is thicker and has sharp things on the handle that are sometimes a nuisance to accomodate. I'll get used to it.

Often I carry a PST instead, or a Vic Swisschamp, and usually a Micra in my jeans watch pocket.

My "BU" for any or all is either a Delica (SE) or Endura (PE).

A few months ago I experimented with a Charge Ti as a one piece alternative to the ST 200/Spydies combo, but it didn't work out. I lost confidence in the Charge when a liner lock failed while I was cutting some vines. The blade closed softly against my work glove, so I didn't get hurt, but this is the first time I had ever experienced a failure on any of my locking blades. Everything looked alright, but a spine whack on the PE and SE blades folded each with a mere tap. Too bad, the Charge looked so promising.

I cary a Buck Whitacker!

It can cut things, open bottles, and hold your keys!

That little bugger is WHICKED sharp, I tell you what.

I always carry an "oldskool" LM Wave on the belt and a Spyder Mini Manix in my pocket. (Great combo, I think.)

Right now, I have...

On my belt: LM Juice Pro

In front left pocket: LM Squirt S4, P4, and EL

On my keychain (in right front pocket): LM Micra, Swiss+Tech Micro-Plus and Utili-Key, Gerber Deluxe Utility Clippers, and a Spyderco Jester PE

Clipped to right front pocket: Spyderco 80MM Mini-Manix CE

Redundancy...

My daily use is Spartan Lite, backed up by OHT for the saw and locking blades!

No more tacticals, cause with the same space of OHT I got extra toos!

Altho I am fortunate enough to have lots of family, friends and acquaintances, not one is interested in this subject, including those who carry and use knives and tools every day. That makes the internet my only resource for knews and views, and that isn't totally bad. It keeps me from boring the peple I know while borings hundreds of people I don't:D

One of my friends, however, used live in a small Ohio River town. On Saturday mornings, after the traditional breakfast of whiskey and eggs, guys would gather in small groups to show off or trade blades. Anytime, talk about these was a staple in conversation, like sports or anything else.
His own interest was minimal, but for him it was a social thing.

Isn't the universe perfectly arranged? Nobody gets what he wants.
